What does it mean to be human β€” in a world that feels increasingly uncertain?

That question sits at the heart of something we've been building for a while now, and we're finally ready to share it.

The Department of English & Modern Languages at North South University is proud to announce the 2026 International Conference in Language, Literature, and TESOL β€” themed "Encountering the Human(ities): Anxiety, Storytelling, Futurity."

It's a theme that feels urgent right now. Anxiety about the future. The stories we tell to make sense of it. The humanities as a space where these tensions get examined, challenged, and reimagined. We're inviting scholars, researchers, writers, and thinkers β€” from inside and outside academia β€” to bring their work into that conversation.

A few things worth knowing:

β–Έ The conference runs across two days β€” 30–31 October 2026
β–Έ It's hybrid, so you can join in person at NSU or participate online from anywhere in the world
β–Έ Selected papers will be published in conference proceedings by a reputed publishing house
β–Έ Abstract submissions close 30 June 2026 β€” that's coming up soon

Send your abstract to [email protected] and visit the conference website for full details and guidelines.

We'd love to see what you're working on.

Date: 30–31 October 2026 (Friday–Saturday)
Venue: North South University Hybrid β€” online & in-person
Submit abstracts: [email protected]
Abstract deadline: 30 June 2026 β€” submit now

Let's talk about something we don't say out loud enough β€” burnout is real, and it doesn't only hit professionals. Students feel it too. That constant weight of deadlines, expectations, and the quiet exhaustion that builds up when you keep pushing without a break.

If you've been running on empty lately, this one's for you.

We're hosting a special session this Monday evening β€” an honest, open conversation about burnout, resilience, and what it actually means to protect your mental health in the middle of everything life throws at you.

No jargon, no lectures. Just a space to understand what's happening, and what you can do about it.

β€” β€” β€” β€” β€” β€” β€” β€” β€” β€” β€” β€” β€” β€” β€”
Running on Empty: Managing Burnout and Protecting Mental Health in Work, Life and Study

Facilitated by Dr. Nahid Siddiqui
Co-facilitated by Atia Masuda Bilkis

Inna Lillaahi Wa Inna Ilayhi Raaji'un.

We share this with heavy hearts.

NSU has lost a beloved alumnus β€” Sheikh Bari, known warmly to his batchmates as Shopon, of the 1993/94 batch, passed away suddenly last Sunday in Sydney, Australia, after suffering a cardiac arrest. He had been living in Mount Druitt, NSW, where his Janazah was held.

Shopon was the kind of person who stays with you. Warm, dependable, and genuinely connected to the people and place that shaped him β€” he never really left NSU behind, even as life took him to the other side of the world. That kind of loyalty to one's roots says everything about a person.

To his teachers who remember him from those early years, to the batchmates who walked these halls beside him, and to everyone whose life he touched β€” this loss is deeply felt.

On behalf of North South University, we offer our sincerest condolences to his family, relatives, and all who loved him. May Allah (SWT) forgive his shortcomings, shower him with His boundless mercy, and grant him a place in Jannatul Firdaus. May his family be blessed with sabr and strength in the days ahead.

Please remember Shopon and his family in your duas.

A new chapter begins. πŸŽ“

Summer 2026 is here, and so is a fresh batch of students who just walked through the doors of the Department of Economics at North South University. Watching the orientation come together β€” the energy, the curiosity, the nervous excitement β€” reminded all of us why we love what we do.

This semester's incoming cohort spans our BS in Economics, MS in Economics, and Master's in Development Studies programs, and honestly? This group has something special about them.

The session was opened by Dr. Sakib Bin Amin, Professor of Economics and Director of our Accreditation Project Team, whose words struck just the right chord β€” hopeful, grounded, and full of genuine belief in what these students are capable of. Joining him were some of the sharpest minds in our department:

β–Έ Dr. Ahmed Tazmeen β€” Associate Professor & Registrar, NSU
β–Έ Dr. A. K. M. Waresu l Karim β€” Professor of Accounting & Finance and Dean, NSU School of Business & Economics
β–Έ Dr. A. K. M. Atiqur Rahman β€” Professor of Economics & Director, Economic Research Platform
β–Έ Dr. Gour Gobinda Goswami β€” Professor of Economics
β–Έ Dr. Nazrul Islam β€” Professor of Economics & Director, Agribusiness Centre of Excellence
β–Έ Dr. Ismail Hossain β€” Professor of Economics

The Young Economists' Forum (YEF) brought the energy up a notch with a presentation that had students genuinely excited about life beyond the lecture hall β€” clubs, events, research opportunities, the works.

One moment that stood out: incoming graduate student Misha Mahjabeen took the floor to share her story β€” what brought her here and what she hopes to build. It was a quiet, sincere moment that set a really beautiful tone for the semester ahead.

To every student who joined us this week β€” you chose something meaningful. This department has a long tradition of pushing students to think harder, ask better questions, and care about the world they're studying. We're proud you're here, and we're even more excited to see where you go.

Welcome to the NSU Economics family. This is only the beginning. πŸ’™

One of the year’s most anticipated Bangladeshi films, The University of Chankharpul, is set to release on June 12 at Star Cineplex, Bashundhara Shopping Mall, and Lion Cinemas, Kadamtali Model Town, Keraniganj.

The film has already earned international acclaim for its sensitive portrayal of university dorm life, student politics, and the emotional realities of young people in Bangladesh. Its achievement of the prestigious FIPRESCI – Best Film 2026 (International Film Critics Award)
marks a significant milestone for Bangladeshi cinema on the global stage.
We’re especially proud to share that NSUCDC, one of North South University’s most prestigious clubs, is an Official Collaboration Partner of the film.

This project also holds a special place for the NSU community: NSU alumni Devodyuti Aich Stars in a leading role, and several NSU students were involved in the making of the film as well.

A major achievement for Bangladeshi cinema β€” and a proud moment for the NSU family.
