East West University (EWU) is set to expand its academic horizons with the upcoming introduction of a comprehensive Japanese language course. The decision was formalized during a high-level meeting held on 24 June 2026, at the EWU Board room. The meeting was attended by the university’s top leadership, including Professor Dr. Mohammed Farashuddin, Chairperson of the Board of Trustees, Professor Dr. Shams Rahman, Vice Chancellor, Professor Dr. M. Ashik Mosaddik, Pro Vice Chancellor, Air Cdre (retd) Ishfaq Ilahi Choudhury, Treasurer, Mashfiqur Rahman, Registrar, EWU, Dr. Akhter Jahan, Chairperson of the Department of English, among other key stakeholders.

The 3-credit course will operate under the University’s Foreign Language Center and will be coordinated by the Department of English as an open general course. In an effort to foster global communication skills and enhance career readiness, the course will be an optional course for students across all departments.

The Department of Business Administration (Management Information Systems) at East West University (EWU) organized a distinguished panel discussion titled “Artificial Intelligence in Industry: Transforming Education and the Future Workplace” on June 24, 2026, at the Nousher Ali Lecture Gallery, East West University, Dhaka.

The panel featured two prominent industry leaders as guest speakers:

The speakers shared their experiences and insights on the practical applications of AI, emerging industry trends, data-driven decision-making, workforce transformation, and the skills needed for success in an AI-powered economy.

The program was conducted by Bushra Humyra Esha, Senior Lecturer, and Munira Parvin, Lecturer in the Department of Business Administration at EWU. The organizers highlighted the importance of preparing students for a future in which artificial intelligence plays an increasingly central role in business, education, and society. The discussion sought to inspire students to explore AI-related knowledge, develop digital competencies, and better understand the evolving demands of the modern workplace.

Faculty members, industry professionals, and students were anticipated to attend the event.

East West University organized a vibrant Faculty Retreat program on June 20, 2026, for faculty members from the Faculty of Business and Economics and the Faculty of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences. The day-long event took place at the BRAC CDM in Savar, Dhaka.

The program began with a series of rigorous academic presentations where each department chair showcased their comprehensive Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for the consecutive years of 2024 and 2025. These presentations highlighted significant milestones in research output, teaching excellence, community engagement, and student development, providing a clear roadmap for the university's future academic endeavors.

The event was honored by the presence of the university's top leadership, including Professor Dr. Mohammed Farashuddin, Chairperson of the Board of Trustees; Mr. Nowshad Shamsul Arefin, Member of the Board of Trustees; Professor Dr. Shams Rahman, Vice Chancellor; Professor Dr. M. Ashik Mosaddik, Pro Vice Chancellor; Air Cdre (retd) Ishfaq Ilahi Choudhury, Treasurer; and Mashfiqur Rahman, Registrar. In their addresses, the leadership praised the dedication of the faculty members and emphasized the importance of data-driven growth and continuous collaboration across diverse academic disciplines to uphold East West University’s position as a leader in higher education.

The East West University Center for Research and Training (EWUCRT) organized a research seminar titled “Screening and characterization of L-asparaginase producing bacteria from the soil in and around Dhaka City, Bangladesh” on June 18, 2026, at the EWUCRT Seminar Room. The seminar was chaired by Professor Dr. Shams Rahman, Vice Chancellor of East West University (EWU) and Chairperson of EWUCRT. Professor Dr. Md. Sohel Rana, Executive Director of EWUCRT, delivered the welcome remarks and introduced the distinguished presenters to the audience.

Dr. Md. Mohiuddin Kabir, Associate Professor in the Department of Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology at EWU, presented the key research findings. His co-researcher, Dr. Chowdhury Faiz Hossain, Professor in the Department of Pharmacy at EWU, was also present on the occasion. The seminar featured Dr. Riazul Islam, Professor in the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at the University of Dhaka, as the key discussant, who provided expert insights into the research topic.

The presentation was followed by a lively and interactive query session where the audience engaged in thought-provoking discussions with the researchers. The event was also graced by Professor Dr. M. Ashik Mosaddik, Pro-Vice Chancellor of EWU, along with faculty members, EWUCRT officials, and enthusiastic students. The seminar successfully concluded with remarks from the chair, Professor Dr. Shams Rahman.

The East West University Creative Marketing Club (EWUCMC) organized an exclusive corporate session titled "Learn to Lead" in collaboration with Unilever Bangladesh Limited held on June 14, 2026, at the Manzur Elahi Auditorium on the university campus, the event brought together over 350 ambitious students for their future careers. The inauguration ceremony was graced by Professor Dr. Mohammed Farashuddin, Chairperson of the Board of Trustees, EWU; Professor Dr. Shams Rahman, Vice Chancellor, EWU; and Mr. Zaheen Sajidul Islam, Business Unit Head at Unilever Bangladesh Ltd.

The event was also attended by senior university representatives, including Dr. Farhana Ferdousi (Chairperson and Professor, Department of Business Administration), Dr. M Sayeed Alam (Coordinator, MBA Program), Ms. Ismat Shereen (Advisor of Students' Welfare and Head of Career Counseling Center), and Creative Marketing Club Moderators Mr. Md. The Department of Business Administration at East West University (EWU) organized the Certificate and Prize Giving Ceremony for the second batch of its "Uddokta 101" certificate course. The event was held at the Seminar Room of Business Administration Department of EWU on 11 June 2026.

The ceremony commenced with an inaugural speech by Abu Sadat Muhammad Ashif, Assistant Professor, Department of Business Administration and Programme Coordinator, who highlighted the importance of developing entrepreneurial skills and fostering an entrepreneurial mindset among young individuals to address the challenges of the evolving business landscape.

Representing the participants, entrepreneurs from Batch-2 shared their learning experiences and journeys throughout the program. They expressed how the course provided them with practical knowledge, guidance, and confidence to strengthen their business ideas and entrepreneurial capabilities.

Scientific curiosity, a passion for teaching, and a commitment to advancing human health have defined the distinguished academic career of Dr. Nazia Hoque, Associate Professor in the Department of Pharmacy at East West University.

Dr. Hoque earned her B. Pharm, M. Pharm, and PhD in Pharmaceutical Sciences from Jahangirnagar University in collaboration with the Bangladesh Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (BCSIR). Over the course of her career, she has built a strong research portfolio focused on understanding how biologically active compounds influence human health and disease. Her early investigations explored natural products and fungal metabolites, while her evolving scientific interests led her toward cardiovascular pharmacology and translational biomedical research. For more than fifteen years at East West University, she has combined excellence in teaching with a strong commitment to research and student mentorship.

The Institutional Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC), in collaboration with the East West University Center for Research and Training (EWUCRT), inaugurated a two-month training program titled “Artificial Intelligence in Higher Education: Teaching, Research, and Responsible Innovation” at the S. M. Nousher Ali Lecture Gallery of East West University (EWU) on 11 June 2026.

Professor Dr. Ahmed Wasif Reza, Dean of the Faculty of Sciences and Engineering and Additional Director of the Institutional Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC), delivered the welcome address. In his remarks, he highlighted the growing importance of AI literacy and responsible innovation in academia and stressed the need to equip faculty members with the knowledge and skills to effectively integrate AI into teaching, research, and institutional practices.

Mr. Ma Ben, Managing Director, Public Affairs, South Asia Region, Huawei, attended the event as the Guest of Honor. The inaugural ceremony was graced by Professor Dr. Mohammed Farashuddin, Chairperson of the Board of Trustees and Founder Vice Chancellor of East West University, and Professor Dr. Shams Rahman, Vice Chancellor of EWU, who addressed the participants and emphasized the transformative role of artificial intelligence in higher education, research, and innovation.

This study is a joint research initiative by Professor Dr. Chowdhury Faiz Hossain and Dr. Mst. Rejina Afrin, Associate Professor, from the Department of Pharmacy, East West University, and Dr. Aditya Arya from the School of Medicine, Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, Taylor's University, Malaysia.
