These eight students showed up to a national examination — sat among 700+ finalists from 33+ districts of Bangladesh — and delivered performances that earned them a place on this list. They earned it with their knowledge, their preparation, and their courage to compete at the national level.

General Science Olympiad — To All Participants, Parents & Guardians

Dear Participants, Parents, and Guardians,
This is an official clarification and appeal from the General Science Olympiad Organizing Committee. We are writing this with complete honesty — both about our own failures, and about the actions of some attendees that compounded those failures into the situation we now face together.
We ask you to read this in full. It is important.

PART ONE: OUR FAILURES — WE OWN THEM
We have already issued a public apology for the mismanagement of the 2nd IGSO Bangladesh National Round on 15th May 2026. We will not repeat that apology at length here — but we will restate clearly and without reservation:

The disorganisation of the event was our fault. The organising committee of General Science Olympiad failed to manage an event of this scale properly. The delays, the crowding, the distribution chaos — these were the direct result of our inadequate planning and ex*****on. We acknowledge this completely.
We would also like to make one thing permanently clear:
Independent University Bangladesh (IUB) was the venue provider for this event — nothing more and nothing less. IUB generously gave us their campus free of charge. They had no involvement in the organizing, planning, management, or ex*****on of the event. The Jukti Club volunteers of IUB's CSE Department gave their own time to help us — and were let down by our failures, not the other way around. Any grievance about the event must be directed at us — the General Science Olympiad — and at us alone. IUB bears zero responsibility.

PART TWO: WHAT OUR MISMANAGEMENT MADE POSSIBLE — AND WHAT SOME CHOSE TO DO WITH THAT OPPORTUNITY
Our disorganisation created a chaotic environment on 15th May. We accept that fully.
But a chaotic environment does not create unethical behaviour — it only reveals it.
When our distribution system broke down and a crowd formed during the T-shirt and medal distribution, a significant number of participants took more than one T-shirt. Some took two. Some took three. Every registered participant was entitled to exactly one. The same situation occurred during medal distribution. Some guardians who had not paid for their lunch also took food during the lunch arrangement — food that was intended exclusively for participants and paid guardians. As a direct result of this, our own volunteers — who worked from 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM without a proper break — did not receive their lunch. They sacrificed their meal to serve this event. They did not complain. They did not demand anything. They simply went without.
We are deeply sorry that this happened to them. They deserved far better. And the people responsible for that are not our volunteers — they are those who took what did not belong to them.

PART THREE: AN ETHICAL QUESTION — FROM ONE CONSCIENCE TO ANOTHER
We will ask this once, respectfully, and we ask it sincerely:
If an event is mismanaged — if a crowd forms, if no one is watching closely — does that make it right to take something that was never yours?
Would you be comfortable answering to Allah on the Day of Judgement for the extra T-shirt you took? For the extra medal? For the food that was meant for someone else?
We are not here to judge anyone. That judgement belongs to Allah alone. But we are here to ask — sincerely, with respect — that you search your conscience. A child who participated in a science olympiad, whose parents took extra items in the chaos, will one day grow old enough to understand what happened that day. What lesson do we want them to carry?
This event was organised to celebrate science, knowledge, and the brilliance of Bangladesh's young people. The spirit of that event deserves to be honoured — even now, 17 days later.

PART FOUR: WE HAVE THE FOOTAGE
We want to be transparent about this: our team has reviewed available camera footage and CCTV recordings from the event day. A significant number of individuals who collected multiple items have been identified.
We have not published any names, faces, or identities. We do not want to do that. That is not our first choice — and we sincerely hope it does not become necessary.

PART FIVE: OUR APPEAL — ONE WEEK TO MAKE IT RIGHT
We are giving a window of one week from the date of this statement for anyone who took more than their entitled items — whether a T-shirt, a medal, or both — to quietly and privately return them.

→ Send the item(s) back — we will cover the delivery cost entirely. You pay nothing.
→ Hand them over at a collection point that we will arrange near you.

No questions will be asked publicly. No names will be mentioned. The matter will be closed quietly and privately for anyone who comes forward voluntarily within this one week.
If items are not returned within this window, we will have no choice but to publish the identities of those identified in our footage. We do not want to do this. We are asking you sincerely — please make the right choice, before that becomes necessary.

PART SIX: OUR PROMISE TO EVERY GENUINE PARTICIPANT
To every participant and family who behaved with integrity on that day — who waited in the queue, collected what was theirs, and has been patiently waiting at home for 17 days — we want you to hear this clearly:
We see you. We are sorry you have been waiting. And we are making it right.
Here is where things stand:

✅ Winner medals (Gold, Silver, Bronze across all categories) are ready. These have been prepared and will be delivered at the official Prize-Giving Ceremony, details of which will be announced very shortly.

🔄 Participation medals and T-shirts are currently in production. We have placed the order for the new batch and are monitoring production closely. We are committed to completing this within the coming days and beginning delivery.

📦 All participant gifts — medals, T-shirts, and certificates — will be delivered within the next two weeks. Participants who registered for home delivery will be contacted personally to confirm their address and schedule dispatch.

📊 Results update: Most category results have already been published. The University Category result will be published within the next week. We thank University participants for their continued patience — their papers required the most detailed checking of all categories.

A FINAL WORD
We want to end with this.
The 2nd IGSO Bangladesh National Round was not a perfect event. The organising failures were ours — we have said that clearly and we mean it. But the story of 15th May 2026 is not only a story of organisational failure. It is also, in part, a story of what happens when discipline, patience, and ethics are set aside in a moment of opportunity.

We are not saying the event failed only because of attendee behaviour. Our failures came first, and they came loudest. But we owe it to every disciplined, patient, honest participant and parent who attended that day — to also name what happened honestly.
The young scientists of Bangladesh deserved a better event. They also deserved better from the adults around them on that day.
We will do better. We are asking everyone — including those who made mistakes on 15th May — to do better as well.

১৫ই মে ২০২৬-এর ইভেন্টের mismanagement-এর জন্য আমরা আগেই প্রকাশ্যে ক্ষমা চেয়েছি। আজ আবারো স্পষ্টভাবে বলছি —
ইভেন্টের বিশৃঙ্খলা সম্পূর্ণরূপে আমাদের আয়োজক কমিটির ব্যর্থতা। দেরি, ভিড়, বিতরণে অব্যবস্থাপনা — সব কিছু আমাদের অপ্রতুল পরিকল্পনা ও পরিচালনার ফলাফল। এটা আমরা কোনো অজুহাত ছাড়াই স্বীকার করি।
এবং একটি বিষয় চিরতরে স্পষ্ট করে দিতে চাই —
Independent University Bangladesh (IUB) শুধুমাত্র আমাদের venue প্রদানকারী ছিল — এর বাইরে আর কিছু নয়। IUB বিনামূল্যে তাদের campus আমাদের দিয়েছিল। ইভেন্টের পরিকল্পনা, ব্যবস্থাপনা বা পরিচালনার সাথে IUB-এর কোনো সম্পর্ক ছিল না। IUB-এর CSE বিভাগের Jukti Club-এর স্বেচ্ছাসেবকরা নিজেদের সময় দিয়ে আমাদের সাহায্য করেছিল — এবং আমাদের ব্যর্থতার কারণেই তারা কষ্ট পেয়েছে, তাদের কারণে আমরা নয়। ইভেন্ট নিয়ে যেকোনো অভিযোগ শুধুমাত্র General Science Olympiad-এর কাছে করুন। IUB-এর কোনো দায় নেই।

দ্বিতীয় অংশ: আমাদের mismanagement যে সুযোগ তৈরি করেছিল — এবং কেউ কেউ সেই সুযোগের কী ব্যবহার করেছিল
আমাদের অব্যবস্থাপনা ১৫ই মে একটি বিশৃঙ্খল পরিবেশ তৈরি করেছিল। এটা আমরা পুরোপুরি মেনে নিই।
কিন্তু একটি বিশৃঙ্খল পরিবেশ কখনো অনৈতিক আচরণ তৈরি করে না — শুধুমাত্র সেটিকে প্রকাশ করে।
যখন আমাদের বিতরণ ব্যবস্থা ভেঙে পড়ে এবং T-shirt ও medal বিতরণের সময় ভিড় তৈরি হয়, উল্লেখযোগ্য সংখ্যক অংশগ্রহণকারী একটির বেশি T-shirt নিয়েছেন। কেউ দুটো, কেউ তিনটি পর্যন্ত। প্রতিটি নিবন্ধিত অংশগ্রহণকারী ঠিক একটি T-shirt পাওয়ার হকদার ছিলেন। medal বিতরণের ক্ষেত্রেও একই ঘটনা ঘটেছে।
এছাড়াও — লাঞ্চ ব্যবস্থা কেবলমাত্র অংশগ্রহণকারীদের জন্য এবং যে অভিভাবকরা নির্ধারিত মূল্য পরিশোধ করেছিলেন তাদের জন্য ছিল। কিন্তু অনেক অভিভাবক যারা এই লাঞ্চের জন্য অর্থ প্রদান করেননি, তারাও খাবার নিয়েছেন। এর সরাসরি পরিণতি হলো — আমাদের স্বেচ্ছাসেবকরা, যারা সকাল ৮টা থেকে সন্ধ্যা ৬টা পর্যন্ত অবিরাম কাজ করেছিলেন, তারা তাদের লাঞ্চ পাননি। তারা নিজেদের খাবার ছেড়ে দিয়েছেন কোনো অভিযোগ ছাড়াই — কোনো দাবি ছাড়াই।
তাদের প্রতি এই অন্যায়ের জন্য আমরা গভীরভাবে দুঃখিত। তারা অনেক ভালো ব্যবহার পাওয়ার যোগ্য ছিলেন। এবং এই পরিস্থিতির জন্য দায়ী তারা নন — দায়ী তারা যারা অন্যের প্রাপ্য নিয়ে নিয়েছিলেন।

তৃতীয় অংশ: একটি নৈতিক প্রশ্ন — একটি বিবেক থেকে আরেকটি বিবেকের কাছে
আমরা এই প্রশ্নটি একবারই করব — সম্মানের সাথে, আন্তরিকভাবে:
কোনো ইভেন্ট যদি mismanage হয় — যদি ভিড় হয়, যদি কেউ সরাসরি নজর না রাখে — তাহলে কি যা আপনার নয়, তা নেওয়া ন্যায়সঙ্গত হয়ে যায়?
সেই অতিরিক্ত T-shirt-এর জন্য, সেই অতিরিক্ত medal-এর জন্য, সেই খাবারের জন্য — যা অন্যের ছিল — কিয়ামতের দিন আল্লাহর সামনে কি জবাব দিতে হবে না?
আমরা কাউকে বিচার করতে আসিনি। সেই বিচার একমাত্র আল্লাহর। কিন্তু আমরা অনুরোধ করছি — আন্তরিকভাবে — নিজের বিবেককে প্রশ্ন করুন। যে সন্তান বিজ্ঞান অলিম্পিয়াডে অংশ নিয়েছে, যার অভিভাবক সেদিনের বিশৃঙ্খলার সুযোগে অতিরিক্ত জিনিস নিয়েছেন — সেই সন্তান একদিন বড় হবে এবং বুঝবে সেদিন কী হয়েছিল। আমরা তাকে কোন শিক্ষাটি দিতে চাই?

চতুর্থ অংশ: আমাদের কাছে ফুটেজ আছে
স্পষ্টভাবে বলতে চাই: আমাদের টিম ইভেন্ট দিনের camera footage এবং CCTV recording পর্যালোচনা করেছে। যারা একাধিক item সংগ্রহ করেছেন তাদের একটি উল্লেখযোগ্য অংশকে চিহ্নিত করা হয়েছে।
আমরা এখনো কোনো নাম, পরিচয় বা ছবি প্রকাশ করিনি। আমরা এটা করতে চাই না। এটা আমাদের প্রথম পছন্দ নয় — এবং আমরা আন্তরিকভাবে আশা করি এটা প্রয়োজনীয় হবে না।

পঞ্চম অংশ: আমাদের আবেদন — সংশোধনের জন্য এক সপ্তাহ
এই বিবৃতির তারিখ থেকে এক সপ্তাহের মধ্যে যারা তাদের প্রাপ্যের বেশি নিয়েছেন — T-shirt হোক বা medal — তাদের অনুরোধ করছি চুপচাপ ও ব্যক্তিগতভাবে সেগুলো ফিরিয়ে দিতে।

এক সপ্তাহের মধ্যে item ফেরত না আসলে, আমাদের footage-এ চিহ্নিত ব্যক্তিদের পরিচয় প্রকাশ করতে আমরা বাধ্য হব। আমরা এটা চাই না। আন্তরিকভাবে অনুরোধ করছি — সঠিক কাজটি করুন, সেই প্রয়োজন আসার আগেই।

ষষ্ঠ অংশ: প্রতিটি সৎ অংশগ্রহণকারীর প্রতি আমাদের প্রতিশ্রুতি
যারা সেদিন সততার সাথে আচরণ করেছেন — লাইনে দাঁড়িয়েছেন, নিজের প্রাপ্যটুকুই নিয়েছেন, এবং ১৭ দিন ধরে ঘরে অপেক্ষা করছেন — তাদের উদ্দেশ্যে স্পষ্টভাবে বলছি:
আমরা আপনাদের দেখতে পাচ্ছি। আপনাদের অপেক্ষার জন্য আমরা দুঃখিত। এবং আমরা এটা সংশোধন করছি।
বর্তমান অবস্থা:

২য় IGSO Bangladesh National Round একটি নিখুঁত ইভেন্ট ছিল না। সাংগঠনিক ব্যর্থতাগুলো আমাদের ছিল — আমরা সেটা স্পষ্টভাবে বলেছি এবং আমরা সেটা মানি। কিন্তু ১৫ই মে ২০২৬-এর গল্পটি শুধুমাত্র সাংগঠনিক ব্যর্থতার গল্প নয়। এটি আংশিকভাবে সেই মুহূর্তের গল্পও — যখন শৃঙ্খলা, ধৈর্য ও নৈতিকতাকে সুযোগের সামনে বিসর্জন দেওয়া হয়েছিল।

আমরা বলছি না যে ইভেন্টটি শুধুমাত্র অংশগ্রহণকারীদের আচরণের কারণে ব্যর্থ হয়েছে। আমাদের ব্যর্থতাই প্রথম এবং সবচেয়ে বড় ছিল। কিন্তু সেই দিন সৎভাবে, ধৈর্যের সাথে, শৃঙ্খলার সাথে অংশ নেওয়া প্রতিটি অংশগ্রহণকারী ও অভিভাবকের প্রতি আমাদের দায়িত্ব আছে — সত্যটি সৎভাবে বলার।

বাংলাদেশের তরুণ বিজ্ঞানীরা একটি ভালো ইভেন্ট পাওয়ার যোগ্য ছিল। তারা সেদিন তাদের চারপাশের বড়দের কাছ থেকেও আরো ভালো আচরণ পাওয়ার যোগ্য ছিল।
আমরা আরো ভালো করব। এবং যারা সেদিন ভুল করেছেন — তাদেরও আরো ভালো করার আবেদন জানাচ্ছি।
