MS Thesis Defended!
Let us congratulate our master’s student — Md. Sohanur Rahman Sohan for successfully defending his thesis at the Department of Fisheries Technology, Faculty of Fisheries, Bangladesh Agricultural University, Mymensingh today April 21, 2026. The title of his thesis was "Effects of a BAU innovated biofertilizer, BAU-HT compost, on plankton productivity in aquarium and pond conditions". He evaluated the effectiveness of a Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU) innovated organic fertilizer, BAU-HT Compost, for its effectiveness in improving water quality and enhancing plankton productivity under both controlled aquarium and natural pond conditions. This patent pending biofertilizer was developed by our friend Prof. Dr. Ahsan Kabir, Dept. of Animal Science, BAU who found that the compost was highly effective in potato culture that gave significantly higher yield with improved tuber size compared to conventional agricultural practices.
We gratefully acknowledgement the kind guidance provided by Prof. Dr. A.K.M. Ahsan Kabir whose mentorship was instrumental in shaping the research of Sohan.
Congratulations once again to Sohan on this major academic milestone! We at the ARB Lab wish you all the best!!

First PhD Seminar Completed!
Let us congratulate our two PhD students — Ms. Nurun Nahar Laboni and Mohammad Azharul Alam for successfully completing their 1st PhD seminar at the Department of Fisheries Technology, Faculty of Fisheries, Bangladesh Agricultural University, Mymensingh on April 21, 2026.
The research of Ms. Laboni focus on improving the value-added ready-to-cook and ready-to-eat frozen fish products in domestic market of Bangladesh. Her research aims to perform quality assessment, market trends, estimate consumer preferences and seek how post-harvest loss can be reduced in the RTC and RTE fish products. The work was funded by the Bangladesh Agricultural University Research System (BAURES).
The research of Mr. Azhar deals with strengthening the inland fisheries value chain in haor areas of Bangladesh through technological innovations for reducing post-harvest loss. His work is funded by BAU PhD Fellowship.
We gratefully acknowledge the co-supervisors, respected teachers and PG students for their valuable suggestions.
Congratulations once again to Ms. Laboni and Mr. Azhar on this major academic milestone! We at the ARB Lab wish you all the best!!

MS Thesis Defended!
Let us congratulate our master’s student — Mehedi Hasan Alve for successfully defending his thesis at the Department of Fisheries Technology, Faculty of Fisheries, Bangladesh Agricultural University, Mymensingh last November 4, 2025. The title of his thesis was "Quality and safety of ready-to-cook and ready-to-eat fish products from small-scale entrepreneurs in Mymensingh, Bangladesh". He evaluated the quality and safety of ready-to-cook (RTC) and ready-to-eat (RTE) frozen fish products produced by small-scale entrepreneurs at Phulpur and Sadar upazila in Mymensingh district, Bangladesh. He observed variability in product quality across industries, with RTC products offering higher nutritional value but posing greater microbial risks.
We gratefully acknowledgement the kind guidance provided by Prof. Dr. Md. Nurul Haider whose mentorship was instrumental in shaping the research of Alve.
Congratulations once again to Alve on this major academic milestone! We at the ARB Lab wish you all the best!!

MS Thesis Defended!
Let us congratulate three master’s students — Hassan Shafkat Siam, Nurul Alam and Swapno Biswas for successfully defending his thesis at the Department of Fisheries Technology, Faculty of Fisheries, Bangladesh Agricultural University, Mymensingh last May 15, 2025. Their research focused on crucial issues in antibiotic resistance and post-harvest fish quality: (1) Identification of multidrug resistant Aeromonas species isolated from diseased stinging catfish (Heteropneustes fossilis) in north-central Bangladesh, (2) Effects of post-harvest handling on quality of silver croaker and javelin grunter in the Cox’s Bazar supply chain and evaluation of an innovative insulated storage solution and (3) Effects of post-harvest handling on quality of pama croaker and javelin grunter in the supply chain of Kalapara upazila, Patuakhali district and evaluation of an innovative insulated storage solution. Siam worked under the Ministry of Education (MoE) funded project and reported Aeromonas veronii as the predominant fish pathogen in diseased stinging catfish during the summer months in Mymensingh district, majority of which were multidrug resistant (MDR). Nurul and Swapno both worked under the SCMF Project and assessed the changes in fish quality as they move through different stakeholders in the supply chain at the artisanal marine fisheries sector of Bangladesh. We gratefully acknowledgement the kind guidance provided by Prof. Tofazzal Hossain and Prof. Nurul Haider whose mentorship was instrumental in shaping the research of all three students.
Congratulations once again to Siam, Nurul and Swapno on this major academic milestone! We at the ARB Lab wish you all the best!!
