π Mini phonics lesson plan for blending CVC words!
A simple lesson idea for teachers and parents to help children practise:
β¨ letter sounds
β¨ blending
β¨ reading short words
β¨ word
1) MAGIC E
β¨ MAGIC E makes the vowel say its name!
This is one of the most important spelling patterns for early readers.
When we add e at the end, the vowel sound often changes:
cap β cape
kit β kite
hop β hope
tub β tube
Teaching this pattern helps children move from short vowel words to long vowel words with more confidence.
π¬ Which word does your child find easiest: cape, kite, hope, or tube?

2) AI OR AY
π€ AI or AY? Here is a simple spelling rule for young learners!
A helpful beginner rule is:
β
AI usually comes in the middle
Examples: rain, train, snail
β
AY usually comes at the end
Examples: play, day, tray
Simple pattern practice like this helps children read and spell more accurately.

3) OA OR OW
π Two ways to spell the long O sound!
Children often get confused between OA and OW, so teaching the pattern clearly can really help.
β
OA usually comes in the middle
Examples: boat, coat, road
β
OW often comes at the end
Examples: snow, grow, throw
One small spelling rule can make reading easier and more predictable for children.
π¬ Which word does your child know already: boat or snow?

4) WHEN DO WE USE CK?
π‘ When do we use CK?
A simple rule for early learners:
Use CK after a short vowel at the end of a one-syllable word.
Examples:
duck
neck
sock
rock
Rules like this help children understand spelling instead of just memorising words.

π Does your child know the alphabet but still struggle to read words independently?
Many children can name letters and repeat sounds, but they still find it difficult to:
πΉ blend sounds into words
πΉ read simple sentences without guessing
πΉ spell words independently
πΉ recognise different spelling patterns
πΉ write with confidence
This does not mean your child cannot learn. It usually means they need a clear, step-by-step phonics approach that matches their current level.
At Phonics with Misbah, I support children from KG to Grade 3 through structured online reading and writing sessions on Google Meet.
Each child receives targeted support based on their learning needs, including:
β
letter-sound recognition
β
pure sound pronunciation
β
blending and segmenting
β
CVC word reading
β
spelling patterns
β
sentence reading and writing
β
confidence-building practice
π Online sessions are available for families in Bahrain, Pakistan, India, and internationally.
The goal is not just to help children memorise words. The goal is to help them become confident, independent readers and writers.

Does your child know every letter sound but still guess randomly when reading a word?
This does not mean they are failing. They may simply need extra practice joining sounds together through hearing before reading them from a page.
Try a quick listening game today:
Say: /s/ β /a/ β /t/
Then stretch the sounds together: ssssaaat
Finally say the word clearly: sat
Once your child can hear the word, bring the written letters back.
Small steps build independent readers. π
