LJM Maritime Academy | Semester Church Service

There is something powerful about pausing, reflecting, and coming together as one.

This past Sunday, our cadets and staff gathered First Baptist Church Nassau Bahamas for our Semester Church Service—a moment of fellowship, renewal, and grounding as we continue the journey ahead.

A highlight of the service was the message delivered by Rev. Dr. Dianna Francis, whose dynamic and inspiring words truly resonated with our cadets. Her ability to connect, challenge, and uplift left a lasting impression on all in attendance.

We extend our sincere thanks to First Baptist Church for their warm hospitality and for welcoming the LJM family so graciously.

On Friday, March 6, LJM Maritime Academy proudly participated in the Second Annual International Women’s Day Leadership Forum hosted by Nassau Cruise Port, held under the theme “Give to Gain.”

Our President, Dr. Richard Wiefelspuett, served as a panelist in the discussion “Women Powering the Port Economy: Cruise, Cargo & Tourism,” which explored leadership pathways, workforce development, and collaboration across the maritime sector.

Dr. Wiefelspuett was accompanied by members of the LJM Maritime Academy community including Registrar Nameiko Miller, Office Administrator Brittany Strachan, Sophomore Cadet Natavia Saunders, and Freshman Cadets Brianna Collie and Orteya Cox.

The forum brought together leaders from government, industry, education, and maritime organizations to discuss the growing role of women in shaping the future of the maritime and port economy in The Bahamas.

LJM Maritime Academy remains committed to developing globally competent maritime professionals and encouraging greater participation of women in the maritime industry.

LJM Maritime Academy Ratings Graduation | January 19, 2026

On January 19, 2026, LJM Maritime Academy proudly graduated 10 Deck and Engine Ratings, marking an important milestone in their maritime journeys.

The Ratings Programme is a four-month programme at LJM Maritime Academy designed to prepare students for entry-level roles on board vessels as deck or engine ratings. The programme provides essential practical skills, safety training, and industry readiness—forming the foundation of a professional seafaring career. Ratings serve across ferries, mailboats, cargo vessels, offshore craft, yachts, and workboats throughout The Bahamas.

Delivering the Presidential Address, Dr. Richard Wiefelspuett reminded graduates of the significance of this achievement, stating:

“A rating is not the bottom of the ladder.
A rating is the foundation of the ladder.”

We also extend special congratulations to our top graduates:
⚙️ Top Engine Rating: Jaden Bauld
⚓ Top Deck Rating: Judithe Metellus

As these graduates move forward—completing the final phase of their STCW training—we celebrate their commitment, discipline, and readiness to enter the Bahamian maritime workforce.

Congratulations to the Class of 2026.
Fair winds and following seas. 🌊
