CELEBRATING EXCELLENCE AT LEDUMANG SENIOR SCHOOL: Desye Lefika Molome, the 2025 BGSCE National Top Achiever – Ranked Number 1 in Botswana.
Desye Lefika Molome is P10 000 richer!

On Monday, 22 June 2026, Ledumang Senior Secondary School proudly hosted a remarkable and inspiring ceremony to honour its very own Desye Lefika Molome, the 2025 BGSCE National Top Achiever – Ranked Number 1 in Botswana, who achieved an outstanding 7 A*. This historic occasion brought together school leadership, parents, teachers, partners, and students to celebrate not just a result, but a story of commitment, resilience, and excellence.

A Day of Pride and Inspiration

In his address, the School Head, Mr G.D. Showa, warmly welcomed all distinguished guests, highlighting that the day marked a moment of immense pride for the entire Ledumang community. He described Desye’s achievement as a powerful testament that:
“With focus and hard work, no summit is too high.”
He urged students to draw inspiration from Desye, reminding them that:
“Hard work beats talent—if talent does not work hard.”
He called on every learner to rise to the challenge, assuring them that their own success is possible through discipline, consistency, and perseverance.

Recognising the Pillars of Success

The School Head paid heartfelt tribute to parents for their sacrifices and unwavering support, and to teachers for their dedication, resilience, and tireless efforts. He emphasised that behind every top achiever stands a strong support system, and that this celebration belongs to the entire Ledumang family.

Partnerships and Investment in Excellence

Special appreciation was extended to Pranavam Holdings and K.M Dressmaker for their generous contributions, reinforcing the importance of partnerships in education. Through collaboration with the PTA and partners, the school awarded the top achievers some money in recognition of their achievements:

• P10,000 to Desye Lefika Molome
• P2,500 each to Theo Olemogile and Baone Lekoko.

A Vision for the Future

Mr Showa reaffirmed the school’s vision to become the best public school in Botswana, committed to nurturing future leaders, innovators, and policymakers. Drawing from timeless wisdom, he reminded the audience:
“If you are planning for a lifetime, educate people.”
He stressed that Ledumang is not just preparing students for examinations, but is actively building futures and shaping the next generation of national leaders.

A Call to Government

A key highlight of the speech was a strong and passionate appeal for the reinstatement of the Top Achievers Scholarship Programme. The School Head reflected on the programme’s proven impact over the years, noting that it has consistently empowered top-performing students, opened doors to higher education, and motivated excellence across the country.

He proudly referenced the many students who have benefited from the programme, both at Ledumang and nationally, emphasizing that it has transformed lives and provided opportunities to those who might otherwise have been limited by circumstances. The programme, he stressed, has stood as a symbol of merit, hope, and national investment in education.

He emphasized clearly that the programme is not merely a financial reward, but a critical pathway for developing Botswana’s future leaders, and its cancellation has affected deserving students, including the current cohort.

Reinstating the Top Achievers Scholarship is not an expense—it is a national investment in talent, equity, and progress.

Tribute from his teachers:Ms Bathobakae (Social Studies Teacher)

A representative of Desye’s teachers,Ms Bathobakae, who taught Desye Social Studies, shared a proud reflection on her journey with him, describing it as brief but truly remarkable. She explained that Desye only took Social Studies as a supplementary subject and did not attend regular classes, working with her for just about ten months. Despite these limitations, he demonstrated exceptional ability and determination.

She recalled initially being sceptical and maintaining strict standards, even cutting him off when necessary—but he quickly proved his capability by topping the school in his very first test. She highlighted how she provided structure and a clear plan, which Desye executed with discipline and precision.
She further commended his character, noting that he consistently showed respect to all his teachers and remained humble throughout. She also paid tribute to the strong support from his parents, emphasizing that their involvement played a key role in his success.

Words from the Nation’s Number 1

In a deeply inspiring speech, Desye Lefika Molome shared his journey and the mindset that led to becoming the best student in the country:
“The difference between a dreamer and an achiever is not talent alone, it is the willingness to do the work day after day.”
He explained how learning about the Top Achievers Programme motivated him to work harder and aim higher. He encouraged fellow students to remain disciplined, follow study timetables, participate in group discussions, and make the most of their time.
“Great achievements are built through small, consistent efforts over time.”
He expressed heartfelt gratitude to his parents, teachers, and peers, acknowledging their role in his success.

A Father’s Pride and Legacy

In a touching moment, Mr Molome, Desye’s father—and one of the first students of Ledumang Senior School in 1994—shared words of pride and encouragement. Reflecting on his son’s journey, he highlighted discipline and commitment as the foundation of success, urging all learners to work hard and remain focused.
“Dreaming is cheap, but achieving is hard work.”

Honouring Excellence – A Lasting Legacy-Wall of Fame

The ceremony concluded with a symbolic and proud moment as Desye and fellow recognised students unveiled their posters on the newly established Wall of Fame at the school’s administration block reception. This initiative celebrates excellence, inspires current and future students, and creates a lasting legacy within the school.
The posters will also be displayed in the School Head’s and Deputy School Heads’ offices, ensuring these achievements remain visible and honoured every day.

A Message to All Students

This event was more than a celebration—it was a powerful reminder that success is earned through discipline and persistence, that opportunities must be matched with effort, and that excellence is attainable for those who refuse to give up.
At Ledumang Senior School, education is about unlocking potential, building futures, and inspiring greatness.

Keep dreaming. Keep working. Keep achieving—because excellence is built, not given.
