Signs That a Man May Be Struggling

Mental health challenges don't always look the way we expect. Many men may not openly talk about what they're going through, but their struggles can show up in other ways.

Some signs to look out for include:
• Increased irritability or anger
• Withdrawing from family and friends
• Changes in sleep patterns
• Increased alcohol or substance use
• Loss of interest in hobbies or activities
• Difficulty concentrating or making decisions

Experiencing one or more of these signs does not necessarily mean someone has a mental health condition. However, persistent changes in mood, behavior or daily functioning may indicate that additional support is needed.

If you notice these signs in yourself or someone you care about, consider starting a conversation. A simple check-in can make a meaningful difference.

This Men's Mental Health Awareness Month, let's encourage awareness, compassion and support for the men in our lives.

Recognizing the signs can make a difference.

💚 Happy Father’s Day! 💚

Today, we celebrate the fathers, grandfathers, uncles and father figures who have guided, protected and loved us through every stage of life. Your strength, wisdom, and sacrifices don’t go unnoticed.

To all the fathers out there, thank you for all that you do.

As we honor fathers today, let’s also remember to check in on their wellbeing, physically and emotionally. Even the strongest heroes deserve support and care. 💚

Happy Father’s Day from all of us at Legato!

WHY DO MEN OFTEN STAY SILENT?

Many men are taught from a young age to be strong, independent and emotionally resilient. While these qualities can be valuable, they can sometimes make it difficult to ask for help during challenging times.

Men may stay silent because they fear being judged, worry about appearing weak, feel pressure to handle problems alone or simply don't know where to turn for support.

The truth is that everyone faces struggles at some point in life. Reaching out for help is not a sign of weakness. It is a sign of courage.

This Men's Mental Health Awareness Month, let's encourage open conversations and create safe spaces where men feel comfortable speaking about their mental wellbeing.

💙 You don't have to carry it all alone.

💙 Men's Mental Health Matters 💙

June is Men's Mental Health Awareness Month, a time to raise awareness about the mental health challenges many men face and to encourage open, honest conversations about emotional wellbeing.

Society often teaches men to be strong, independent, and resilient. While these qualities can be valuable, they can sometimes make it difficult for men to express their emotions or seek support when they need it.

Mental health challenges such as stress, anxiety, depression, burnout and grief can affect anyone. Seeking help is not a sign of weakness. It is a positive step toward healing, growth and wellbeing.

This month, we encourage men to:
- Check in with themselves regularly
- Talk to someone they trust
- Prioritize their mental wellbeing
- Reach out for professional support when needed

Let's work together to create spaces where men feel heard, supported, and understood.

💙 If you're a man reading this, what is one thing you do to take care of your mental health?

Completing your child’s assessment journey does not always mean the journey ends there.

As children grow and develop, their academic, emotional and social needs may change over time.

- Is my child making progress?
- Do support strategies still work?
- Should recommendations be updated?

This is why ongoing review can be an important part of the journey.

Step 9: Ongoing Review
Ongoing review helps monitor your child’s progress and ensures that support recommendations continue to meet their needs as they grow.

This may include:
- Reviewing progress over time
- Monitoring support strategies
- Adjusting recommendations where needed
- Identifying new challenges that may emerge with development

Children change as they move through different stages of school and life, and sometimes the support they need changes too.

At Legato, we believe that ongoing care and review can play an important role in helping children continue to thrive academically, socially and emotionally.

Your child’s assessment journey can still bring many questions, especially after receiving recommendations and results.

* What support will my child need?
* Will support only happen at the clinic?
* What happens after the feedback session?

This week, we continue walking this journey with you step by step, so you feel informed, supported and reassured moving forward.

Let’s continue.

Step 8: Ongoing Support
After the assessment and feedback session, support recommendations are made based on your child’s individual needs.

These recommendations may include:
- Therapy referrals
- Counselling support
- School accommodations
- Exam concessions
- Specialist referrals
- Follow-up support services

Every child’s journey is different. Some children may need short-term support, while others may benefit from ongoing intervention and monitoring over time. The purpose of these recommendations is to ensure that your child receives the appropriate support both academically and emotionally.

At Legato, we believe that assessment is not just about identifying challenges. It is about helping children access the support they need to thrive.

And the journey does not end here.

Continuing your child’s assessment journey can still feel emotional and uncertain, especially once the assessment has been completed.

What do the results mean?
Will everything be explained clearly?
What happens after receiving the report?

This week, we are continuing to walk this journey with you step by step, so you feel informed, supported and reassured throughout the process.

Let’s continue.

Step 7: Feedback Session
Once the assessment and written report are complete, a dedicated feedback session is scheduled with parents or caregivers.

During this session:
- Results are explained in clear and practical language
- Parents are given the opportunity to ask questions
- Guidance is provided on how to support the child at home and at school
- Recommendations and next steps are discussed together

This session is an important part of the journey because it helps families fully understand their child’s strengths, challenges and support needs moving forward. Assessments should not leave parents feeling overwhelmed or confused. Our goal is to ensure that you leave feeling informed, supported and empowered.

And the journey does not end here.

Completing your child’s assessment journey can still feel uncertain, especially as you begin moving beyond the assessment itself.

- What happens after the results?
- What support will my child need?
- Will the journey end after the report?

This week, we are continuing to walk this journey with you step by step, so you feel informed, supported and reassured every step of the way.

Let’s continue.

-Step 7: Feedback Session
Once the assessment and report are complete, a dedicated feedback session is scheduled with parents. During this session, results are explained in clear and practical language, guidance is provided on how to support your child, and next steps are discussed together.

-Step 8: Ongoing Support
Support does not end after the assessment. Depending on your child’s needs, recommendations may include therapy referrals, counselling, school accommodations, exam concessions, follow-up assessments or additional specialist support.

-Step 9: Ongoing Review
As children grow, their needs can change. Continued review allows support plans and recommendations to evolve over time to ensure your child continues receiving the appropriate support both at school and at home.

Each of these steps is designed to ensure that families are not left navigating the journey alone after assessment.

And the journey does not end here.
If you’ve been following along, you’re already taking an important step toward understanding and supporting your child.

As we continue your child’s assessment journey, we now move into the stage that brings together all the information gathered throughout the process.

Step 6: Written Report

Following the assessment session, a detailed report is carefully compiled by the psychologist. This process takes time because the information gathered during the assessment, parent interview, teacher feedback and observations must all be reviewed thoroughly.

The written report may include:
- Assessment findings
- A diagnosis if applicable
- Recommendations for school support
- Recommendations for support at home
- Referrals to other specialists if needed

This report is designed to provide a clearer understanding of your child’s strengths, challenges and support needs. It also serves as a guide for parents, caregivers, teachers and other professionals involved in supporting your child’s development and learning journey.

Reports are usually completed approximately 3 weeks after the assessment once all forms and information have been received. Every child is different, which is why each report is individualized and carefully prepared.

In the next step, we will walk you through the feedback session and how results are discussed with parents in a supportive and practical way.
