BDF SELECTION PROCESS AND THE SALARIES

●PART 2

Those who made it from part 1 at the recruitment centres,will now gather at the main centre and will first be updated on the selection process and general conduct.Thereafter they will be briefed on the medical examination background.

Then begins the military medical examination stages tsone tsa bo matlho and X-Rays,jalo jalo.

Sometimes it gets uncomfortable,be patient. Bath thoroughly,o tloga o ba turner off ka monko😫.

The sad thing ka this process ke gore o kgona go dira everything right still a bo ntse o sa tsewe. You can fail because of something very minor.

Well,interviews will follow,go tsena individual interview, ba go botsa orally. Remember golo fa re bua ka process ya Cadet officers,even though its almost the same le ya ma Private. So mo individual interview be detailed and brief,o seka wa buela ruri,ke turn off...Ha gongwe ha o buela ruri wena o re o itsenyetsa di points utwa gote "Ah Mr,tsamaaa re go utule"🤣🥲

Common question e ba e ratang gone mo the indivual interview ke ye👉"So how are you going to use your skills to improve the BDF?" Ba tla tswella jalo ba go botsa bo tell us about yourself and staff. BDF SELECTION PROCESS

I heard you are going for selections. Congratulations. Its another blessing,count it.

The selection process is in TWO parts. Today i will tell you about the first part ONLY,then this evening i will share about the second part.

The first part is at the recruitment centres tsone tsa bo Maun,Kasane, Gaborone le tse dingwe.

When you get there you will start with orientation,they will tell you about BDF, conduct of training,the salaries and even the process you are going to follow.

Afterwards there will be screening.

They will check if you have tatoos.Do not worry if you have tatoos, kgang ke gore di tatoo di seka tsa bonala ha o apere uniform. So if they can be concealed by uniform you are good.

But if tatoo ya gago e sa supa dilo tse hatlhang jaaka nudity,racism or insults your chances of making it are LOW.

Then go lejwa di HEIGHT AND WEIGHT:

BGCSE registration ended yesterday. Thats it. Thanks.

1."So if ddn't manage to register,there is no way i could be assisted?"

Ans: Just wait for late registration this May/June. We are hopeful that it will be there like all the other years. The registration fees are normally higher than the ones for normal registration. This time around(during late registration) you may pay a total of P347(excluding registration fee) per subject.

2."Ok,i registered but i ddn't pay before deadline yesterday,what should i do?"

Call BEC and discuss with them today. Ask for clarity.

3."When does BEC open for IGCSE registration"

It opens on the first or second week of June until maybe Mid July .followed by late registration which runs into mid August.

4."Is it possible to write to IGCSE even though i wrote BGCSE previously"

Yes.Lets say you wrote bgcse and got 32 points but you want to re-write maths and English,you can register for them under IGCSE. After the results are released you take both the certificates to DTEF ,you will be sponsored if you qualify. Re-write when you are still young,your commitments are slowly piling up!

UNIVERSITY OF SOUTH AFRICA(UNISA)- YOU QUALIFY. APPLY!!

Consider UNISA,its one of the best in the world.First, lets answer common questions for us in Botswana.

1."Are there UNISA offices in Botswana?"

Unisa has no offices in Botswana. Make direct calls to SA,send email or talk to the few representatives in Botswana

2. "How are exams written?"
Exams are written online. You write at home.

3."How much is the application fee?"
Application fee is less than P300.

4."Which programmes are offered?"

Almost everything you need. Law,accounts,sciences.. you name it. The 1 year certificates are one of the best in the continent.

5."Can i apply from Botswana?"

Yes apply online,but you will pay foreign Levi. The foreign levi is charged per module. Lets say you are studying 4 modules for LAW at a price of R2800 per module per semester. The Foreign levi will be R2500 for each module for that semester. A single module will be 2800+2500,you understand? Great👏

Now you need 30 modules to get your degree,calculate how much you will pay in foreign levi only😇. All that money does not include study materials. Ask me,its manageable and worth it too.

6."Can i transfer from another university to Unisa?"

Yes,but only if your current university is listed in the COMMONWEALTH UNIVERSITIES YEARBOOK( University of Botswana is a member). If you are not sure about your school,call them and ask directly. Unisa is recognised in Botswana.

7 "Do they have a flexible payment plan? How much do i pay? Give me a rough idea,lets say maybe i want to study LLB."

Yes,you can pay a certain percentage and start,you will pay the balance during the course of time. Fees keep increasing each semester. First semester you may pay around 7k(it basically depends on the number of modules you choose,you have that freedom of choosing your work load)...then second semester you may pay around 12k(depends on what you choose too) . I will explain all that in detail and why i recommend you you start with a certificate incase you do not qualify directly for the LAW degree.

Are there any questions?

TEACHING: SALARIES, WORKING CONDITIONS AND MARKETABLE SUBJECTS.

Teaching is now reserved for students with lower points from senior school. Dont frown at me yet.It's saddening and it's a terrible trend.

Secondly most people are not respected and encouraged by their own parents and school mates if they opt to study Education courses in Universities and colleges.

Thirdly the government just does'nt care about teachers and students. Are you aware that a teacher can be given a 3 months temporary contract, sometimes at the end of which there will be no renewal? Now see where it gets stupid: Since the teacher's contract ended,students may stay 2 months without a teacher,then a different temporary teacher comes along on another 3 months contract. That other teacher goes to another school on another short contract. Isnt this enough to demoralise teachers?. Our children keep recieving temporary teachers almost every term. Obviously they fail and everybody acts suprised.

All this is killing the education system and the future of this country. These students are not even encouraged by teachers, I mean some private school teachers didn't study education in school, so seeing the job as a fall back they tend to discourage the students from getting into school to study education courses. My point is, education is gradually loosing its value because of the people at the helm.

Here is the solution: just vote out these people or push unions to halt everything until there is order. I mean they think they are working hard for our teachers and we are just not grateful for the little they get. They do not blame themselves for misplaced priorities.

That being said, the payments and how teachers live from pocket to mouth is a very discouraging reality. Temporary teachers with Diploma gets P7800 monthly, degrees is around 9k. If employed on a permanet basis and incase you serve for years without promotion and scarce skill allowance ,you will go as far as around 16k. Thats it.

If u r so passionate about teaching be ready for these things. Teaching in general is a congested field,but i highly encourage you consider the following subjects👇,you will find employment sooner or later after graduation:

1.Mathematics(there is also 25% scarce skill allowance)
2. Chemistry( There also 40% scarce skill allowance if you teach in senior school,if you are in Junior school its 25%)
3.Physics ( 25% scarce skill allowance)
4.Primary Education

5. Even though they are not as marketabke as before i also encourage you consider Business Studies,Biology(25% scarce skill allowance,Art and Design and Technology. There is no guarantee for permanent employment,but they better than other subjects in the market.
