A Pictorial Summary of the Formidable Year that was - Part 1
02/10/2023
The preparation for the anticipated Culture Day involved several projects, including pottery making and building of the culture yard. One of the significant activities was the molding of clay pots, locally known as "Dinkgwana." This project aimed to teach students a valuable skill that could potentially benefit them in sustaining themselves even after completing their education.
The process of molding clay pots began with a journey a few kilometers away from Shoshong, near some hills, in search of the clay known as "letsopa." While this journey may have been a bit challenging, it was an essential step in obtaining the necessary raw material for the pottery project.
Once the clay was successfully located and collected, the next crucial step was engaging the expertise of some elders in the village. These knowledgeable individuals were entrusted with passing on the skill of clay pot molding to the eager learners. Their experience and guidance would be instrumental in ensuring that the students acquired the art of pottery effectively.
This project not only added cultural depth to the upcoming Culture Day but also provided a practical and potentially sustainable skill for the students. It showcased the importance of preserving and passing on traditional knowledge and crafts to future generations, making the Culture Day an event that celebrated both the past and the future of the community.
