🚨 FGM Is Not Just in West & East Africa – It's Happening Right Here in Botswana! 🚨
We’ve all heard about Female Ge***al Mutilation (FGM) happening in Western and Eastern Africa, but the painful truth is it’s happening in Botswana too—and it’s on the rise in some of our communities. What’s even worse is that there’s no law specifically governing FGM here. When victims try to report it to the police, they are often sent back to village elders who treat it as a “cultural practice.”
This is not just a cultural issue—it’s a human rights violation that is harming our daughters, both physically and mentally.
Batswana, it’s time to stand up! We cannot allow our children to suffer in silence any longer. We need to demand laws that protect our girls and stop these dangerous practices from continuing in our communities.
Let's be the voice that fights for the safety and dignity of every girl in Botswana. FGM must end now!

🚨 The Rampage of FGM in Botswana – It Must Stop 🚨
Female Ge***al Mutilation (FGM) is happening right now in Botswana, quietly but dangerously. This harmful practice is spreading in our communities, putting our girls at risk of life-long health problems, trauma, and even death.
The risks are severe:
Infections: Unclean procedures can lead to serious infections that endanger lives.
Severe pain and trauma: FGM causes unbearable pain and leaves scars that never heal.
Complications in childbirth: Women who have undergone FGM face higher risks during childbirth, endangering both mother and baby.
Mental health damage: The emotional and psychological effects last a lifetime, leading to anxiety, depression, and PTSD.
Batswana, we cannot let this continue! This is not about culture or tradition—it's about protecting our daughters. FGM has no place in our society, and we must rise up to stop it before more lives are destroyed.
Let’s stand together and say NO to FGM. Let’s protect our girls from this violence and demand an end to these harmful practices.

💔 FGM Killed a Child in Egypt – It’s Happening in Botswana Too 💔
In 2016, a young girl in Egypt lost her life due to the brutal practice of Female Ge***al Mutilation (FGM). Her story made headlines, but the heartbreaking truth is that this same inhuman practice is happening right here in Botswana—silently and secretly. Our girls are suffering and dying, and too many cases are being swept under the carpet, hidden from the public eye.
We cannot stay silent any longer. Batswana, let’s stand up against this monster! Our girls deserve to grow up safe and whole, free from the dangers of FGM. This practice is not a cultural right—it’s a violation of human rights, and it needs to end NOW.
Let’s protect our children, let’s speak up, and let’s fight for a future where no girl ever has to endure this kind of pain.

💔 Our Elders Should Protect, Not Harm 💔
It’s painful to admit, but many of our grannies and village elders are still supporting harmful practices like Female Ge***al Mutilation (FGM). In some communities, when girls seek help from the police, their cases are often referred back to these same elders or their parents—the very people pushing for FGM to happen. This makes it nearly impossible for victims to get real support from the government.
Our girls are suffering, both physically and mentally. These outdated traditions are endangering their lives and futures, and it’s time we took a stand. Batswana, let’s rise up! We must stand together to stop FGM and protect the health and rights of our daughters.
Enough is enough. No tradition should ever come before the safety and well-being of our children.

Today, I had a heartbreaking conversation with a friend who has been running away from her parents since she was 18. They’ve been pressuring her to undergo Female Ge***al Mutilation (FGM) as part of an initiation into womanhood. They had already started with "pulling," and it's devastating to hear that these practices are still happening secretly in our communities.
FGM is not only harmful to the physical and mental well-being of our girls, but it also robs them of their rights. It’s a dangerous tradition that has no place in our society today.
Let’s speak up, raise our voices, and stand together to protect the young girls of Botswana. We need to fight to stop these harmful practices and ensure that our daughters grow up safe, respected, and empowered to make their own choices.
