Today, we proudly commemorate the Day of the African Child. This year’s theme highlights the critical role that safe water, adequate sanitation, and good hygiene play in helping children live healthy lives and reach their full potential.
Access to clean water and proper sanitation is closely linked to improved health outcomes, school attendance, dignity, and quality of life. When children have access to these basic necessities, they are better positioned to learn, grow, and thrive.
On this day, we celebrate the potential of every child and the collective responsibility we share in creating environments where they can flourish.

🎓 Alumni Friday
We are proud to shine a light on one of our own who continues to champion mental wellbeing through her studies and work.
Solofelang Dedede, a 2017 BA in Counselling graduate from Boitekanelo College, is currently pursuing a Master’s Degree in Counselling Psychology at Kenyatta University in Kenya.
Reflecting on her time at BC, Solofelang says the combination of academic learning and practical experience helped her see counselling as a calling rather than simply a course of study. Through practicum, supervision and exposure to Botswana’s mental health landscape, she developed the confidence and foundation that continue to shape her journey today.
She shares that one lesson has remained constant throughout her growth: counselling is not about having all the answers, but about listening, learning and supporting people with compassion.
As we mark Men’s Mental Health Awareness Month, we celebrate alumni like Solofelang who are contributing to a future where conversations around mental health are met with greater understanding, support and hope.

In honour of Men’s Mental Health Awareness Month, we are highlighting Mental Health (3rd Edition) by Nicholas Procter, Rhonda L. Wilson, Helen P. Hamer, Denise McGarry & Mark Loughhead (Cambridge University Press, 2022).
This book explains mental health in a clear, practical way, focusing on real-life challenges, support systems, and how we better understand wellbeing while breaking stigma.
We encourage our BC community (students and staff) to take a moment to engage with it on the Buku App to better understand how mental health works in everyday life, how to recognise when someone may be struggling, and how support systems respond.

A student chooses a future in healthcare. Years later, a child hears clearly because of an audiologist.
A patient receives the right diagnosis because of a radiographer.
A family gets support through recovery because of an occupational therapist.
A life is saved because an emergency care professional responded in time.
Healthcare careers create impact far beyond the individual wearing the uniform.
At Boitekanelo College, we prepare students with the knowledge, practical experience, and purpose needed to step into professions that make a real difference in people’s lives and communities.
Your future could change more lives than you imagine.
