Congratulations to Judith Paul, winner of the 2026 English Essay Prize! 🎉
A Psychology major with minors in Sociology and English Literature, Judith impressed the judges with her outstanding essay on The History of Mary Prince (1831), written for Dr. Karen Dieleman’s Romantic Literature course. In her essay, Judith explored how Mary Prince—a formerly enslaved woman whose personal narrative was published in 1831—retained agency in telling her own story, despite the ways it was mediated through others in publication.
The Redeemer University Department of English Essay Prize is an annual award recognizing the best essay submitted by a student in English courses. It includes a $200 gift card to Epic Books in Hamilton. The prize is funded jointly by Epic Books and the Redeemer English Department.
