➕ Math Tip: Master the Power of Integers

Integers are one of the most important topics in Grade 9 Math.

Whether students are solving algebraic equations, working with graphs, or tackling real-world problems, a strong understanding of positive and negative numbers makes everything easier.

Here are three key rules to remember:

✅ Same signs when adding? Add and keep the sign.

✅ When subtracting, change subtraction to addition.

✅ Same signs when multiplying or dividing give a positive answer. Different signs give a negative answer.

The best way to master integers is through practice and by understanding why the rules work, not just memorizing them.

Challenge your child to create their own integer problem involving temperature changes. Real-world examples help mathematical concepts stick.

At LearnEasy Academy, we help students build strong mathematical foundations and develop the confidence needed to succeed in Grade 9 Math and beyond.

As another school year comes to a close, we can't help but smile at some of the unforgettable things our students have said during lessons. 😊

From:

"I don't need help with this question. I just need moral support."

To:

"Today I am only using my smart brain."

And of course, the classic:

"It was definitely on my desk yesterday." 😂

These moments remind us that learning is about so much more than grades and assignments.

Behind every lesson is a child with a unique personality, a curious mind, and a perspective that makes us laugh, think, and appreciate the privilege of being part of their journey.

To all our students, thank you for the stories, the questions, the laughter, and the memories.

And to our parents, thank you for trusting us with your amazing children. They have made this school year truly special. 💛

We wish all our families a summer filled with fun, rest, and wonderful new adventures.

🧠 Human Body Fun Fact

Your brain is one of the most incredible organs in your body.

It contains about 86 billion nerve cells called neurons that constantly send messages throughout your body using tiny electrical signals.

Here's a fascinating fact:

⚡ Your brain produces enough electrical energy to power a small light bulb.

And it's doing that right now while you're reading this!

Your brain helps control:

🧠 Thinking

📚 Learning

💭 Memory

❤️ Emotions

🏃 Movement

🌬️ Breathing

One of the most amazing things about the brain is that it never really takes a break. Even when you're asleep, your brain is busy processing information, storing memories, and helping your body function.

The more we learn about the human body, the more we realize how amazing it truly is.

🎯 Fun Challenge:

Can your child name three things their brain helped them do today?

📝 Language Arts Tip: Edit Like a Professional Writer

Did you know that professional authors rarely publish their first draft?

Good writing becomes great writing through editing.

Before submitting any writing assignment, try using the CUPS strategy:

🔠 C – Capitalization
Did you capitalize names, places, and the beginning of sentences?

📖 U – Usage
Did you use the correct words and grammar?

❗ P – Punctuation
Did you include periods, commas, and question marks where needed?

✏️ S – Spelling
Did you check for spelling mistakes?

Taking a few extra minutes to edit can make a big difference.

Editing helps students:

✅ Make their writing easier to understand

✅ Catch mistakes before submitting

✅ Improve their grades

✅ Build confidence as writers

One simple tip: Read your work aloud.

Hearing your writing often helps you spot mistakes that are easy to miss when reading silently.

Another helpful strategy is to take a short break before editing. Coming back with fresh eyes can help you notice errors more easily.

Challenge:

Use the CUPS checklist on your next writing assignment and see how many corrections you can find.

➗ Math Tip: Explain Your Thinking

Getting the correct answer is important.

Being able to explain how you got it is even better.

When students talk through their thinking, they strengthen their understanding and become more confident problem-solvers.

A simple way to start is:

🗣️ First I...

🗣️ Then I...

🗣️ Finally I...

For example:

There are 24 apples packed into bags with 6 apples in each bag. How many bags are there?

First, I identified the important information: 24 apples and 6 apples per bag.

Then, I divided 24 by 6.

Finally, I checked my answer and found that there are 4 bags.

In Alberta classrooms, showing your process is just as important as finding the answer. Teachers want to understand your thinking, not just see the final result.

A good question to ask yourself is:

Could someone understand my solution by reading my work?

At LearnEasy Academy, we help students build strong problem-solving skills, mathematical reasoning, and confidence through personalized online tutoring.

🔬 Science Tip: Science Is Everywhere

Many students think science only happens in a classroom or laboratory.

The truth is that science is happening all around us every day.

🌧 Rain helps us understand the water cycle.

🍳 Cooking shows us chemical changes.

🚴 Riding a bike teaches us about forces and motion.

One of the best ways to learn science is to connect what you're learning to real life.

When students start noticing science in the world around them, concepts become easier to understand and remember.

Encourage your child to be curious, ask questions, and look for examples of science in their daily activities.

What science concept have you seen today?

How much help is too much when it comes to homework? 🤔

Many parents have been there.

Your child asks for help, and you wonder whether to explain the question, give a hint, or simply provide the answer and move on with your evening.

The truth is that children learn the most when they are supported without having the work done for them.

Sometimes, instead of giving the answer, try asking:
"What do you understand so far?"

That simple question encourages thinking, builds confidence, and helps children develop problem-solving skills that will serve them far beyond homework.

At LearnEasy Academy, some of our favourite moments happen when a student says, "I can't do it," and then figures it out with just a little guidance.

The goal isn't to leave children struggling.
The goal is to help them believe they are capable.

Sometimes, being the guide is more powerful than being the answer. 💛

What strategies have worked for you when helping your child with homework? Let us know in the comments.

➗ MATH TIP: Stuck on a Word Problem?

Word problems can feel overwhelming, but breaking them into smaller steps can make them much easier to solve.

One strategy many successful students use is the CUBES method:

🔹 Circle important numbers
🔹 Underline the question
🔹 Box key words
🔹 Eliminate unnecessary information
🔹 Solve

Instead of rushing straight to the answer, take time to understand what the problem is asking.

When students learn how to organize information, they become more confident problem-solvers and make fewer mistakes.

Remember, math is not just about numbers. It's about understanding.

📚 Language Arts Tip: The Power of Rereading

Many students read a passage once and immediately move on to the questions.

Strong readers often do something different.

They go back and read important sections a second time.

That second read can help students:

✅ Notice details they missed the first time

✅ Better understand the author's message

✅ Answer questions more accurately

Reading is not about finishing quickly. It's about understanding what you read.

If your child is struggling with reading comprehension, encourage them to slow down and reread before looking for help. Often, the clues are already in the passage.

At LearnEasy Academy, we help students develop stronger reading, writing, and comprehension skills through personalized online tutoring.

➗ MATH TIP: Estimate Before You Calculate!

One of the smartest habits mathematicians use is estimating first. 💡

Before solving a problem, make a quick prediction of what the answer should be.

Example:
49 × 21

Estimate:
50 × 20 = 1,000

Actual Answer:
49 × 21 = 1,029

Since 1,029 is close to 1,000, you know your answer makes sense! ✅

Why does estimating help?

✔️ Catches mistakes before they become habits
✔️ Improves number sense
✔️ Builds confidence in problem-solving
✔️ Helps students check if their answers are reasonable

At LearnEasy Academy, we teach students not just how to get the answer, but how to think like mathematicians.

👇 Challenge:
Can your child think of another math problem where estimating would help?
