Wishing our students and families a safe and spoooky Halloween!

LYNX students in grades K-8 enjoyed a fall visit to the Calgary Corn Maze at the Farm Yard. They learned about plants in a special lesson prepared for the LYNX students. They also participated in a Mining Activity, Wagon Ride and a Lesson about Animals. What a great way to learn our lessons.

LYNX students recently visited Butterfield Acres. They had great fun visiting with all the animals, enjoyed a hay ride and had a Pumpkin Scavenger Hunt. Everyone had a lot of fun and the students were allowed to take home the pumpkins that they found! đ

Did you spot the sisters? The LYNX logo is obvious in
that the focus of the logo is the Lynx: a short-tailed wild
cat with keen vision and toes that spread out like
snowshoes, a forest cat with excellent hearing and the
stealthy ability to stalk and ambush prey. ButâŚdid you
spot whatâs unique to our Lynx? Hidden in the image is
the famous Three Sisters mountain range located near
Banff and Canmore. The significance of the Three
Sisters hidden within the Lynx is a nod to where the
school first originated in the Bow Valley.

Meet the Principal - Joe Smith
An experienced teacher of 28 years, Joe has taught children in the public system, in a high academic private school, and then with Third Schools he taught special needs, home education, and now LYNX nature inspired programming. Joe has experience with leadership, as he spent 18 years as a Principal, or Associate Principal. Throughout each teaching experience Joe used his athletic background to coach most sports and to help children experience outdoor education. Joe believes that outdoor experiences can have a positive impact on every child. Joe is currently leading the Lynx program and is very excited about the opportunity to make education outdoors, a choice for many families. In his free time Joe enjoys traveling, camping, hiking, and spending time with his children and grandchildren.

Rough start? Here are a few tips for a successful start to
your day:
SLEEP! SLEEP! SLEEP!
Setting a regular bed time, not using electronics 2 hours
before bed, and creating an environment that promotes
relaxation (black out curtains, essential oils like
lavender, soft sheets, a high-quality pillow, etc.)
Prep the night before:
-Have your child look at their schedule/lesson plan to
know what lessons they have and what books/materials
theyâll need for each.
-Have your child clean their desk or workstation and set
out any books, materials theyâll need for the morning.
-Encourage your child to pick and plan a healthy
breakfast, and set out anything so that itâs ready in the
morning.
-Have your child lay out their clothes for the next day.
Make the bed: this develops good discipline and helps
your child keep their room clean and organized.
Keep everything in the same place: avoid wasted time
looking for supplies, books or assignments and give
everything a designated spot at their workstation.

Try these healthy lunch tips to keep school lunches interesting.
Include the major food groups: Have a balance lunch box that includes a protein, grain, fruit/vegetable and dairy.
Select nutrient rich foods: These hidden goodies have
huge health benefits.
Calcium: found in dairy, canned fish, and dark greens
Fibre: beans, pears, berries, whole grains, broccoli, most fruits and veggies
Potassium: potatoes, beans, and avocados
Add some zest to your sandwich: this lunchtime staple doesnât need to be boring. With a few swaps or additions lunch time can be easier to prepare for and
yummier to eat.
Try tortillas, wraps or pitas.
Use leftovers from dinner as the protein (turkey perhaps).
Try the âunconventionalâ proteins: eggs, canned tuna or hummus.
Add in those veggies: try darker greens like spinach or kale, add carrots or cucumbers to not only âbeefâ up your sandwich but sneak in some healthy
nutrients.
Put your Sandwich in a bowl: forget the bread, bun or
pita and put everything in a bowl instead. Add on some
healthy nuts for taste and crunch, some shredded
cheese or tortilla chips and youâve got a winning power
bowl on your hands. Donât forget the dressing!

Today is and in Canada. We are honoring the children who never returned home and survivors of Canada's residential schools, as well as their families and communities. We encourage our community to learn more about this part of our Canadian history to adopt a shared understanding of what happened so that we may educate our children/students and those around us.
