Map the System Canada is a learning programme and social innovation competition that equips students to use systems thinking to tackle social and environmental challenges.

Larissa Mazzocca and Riley Lawson have won first place at this year's Humber Polytechnic Map the System campus final for their research on the impact of diagnostic delays of Endometriosis in Canada.

Their analysis found that underdiagnosis and misdiagnosis are perpetuated by a cycle in which limited provider training and poor imaging interpretation create diagnostic uncertainty, reinforcing the perception that endometriosis is rare.

The pair will represent Humber Polytechnic at the Map the System Global Finals at Oxford University in July.

Congratulations to the Map the System Corpus Christi College winners! The team, consiting of Juliana Yong, Mauricio Lopez Garcia, David Bershadky, Nikolas Kravariotis-Escuer, will be moving on the Global Finals at Oxford University in July.

Their project is a systems analysis of the residental school system in Canada, which has left a profoundly harmful legacy with intergenerational impacts on Indigenous families, and the impacts and outcomes of the child welfare system in Canada have mirrored those of the residential school system.

What a Final! 🇨🇦
As much as this is a competition, what mattered most today was the way students shared the topics closest to their hearts — issues they’ve spent months exploring, questioning, and deeply caring about.

Every team brought something meaningful to the stage. And now, all teams are Canadian teams — united by their commitment to systems thinking and changemaking.

While we wait for the results, we know this: the impact has already begun.

We can’t wait to see how Canadian voices will carry forward to Oxford, and how they’ll continue to reflect the spirit, curiosity, and drive of student changemakers across the country.

Because student changemakers never stop!

Systems thinking is often discussed but rarely applied. This is because we are only beginning to fully understand its potential. Like any concept, it's essential to grasp it through the experiences of those directly working within it. So this time, four professionals from diverse disciplines: social innovation education, Western corporate, Blackfoot cosmology, and Western science come together to share how they approach systems thinking.

😄 In our journey, we've been inspired by the work of different professionals from diverse disciplines and commited to share their new and valuable knowledge.
