In honour of Black History Month, several Grade 5 & 6 students volunteered to decorate the collaborative Maya Angelou poster that hangs in the hallway downstairs. Maya Angelou was chosen because of her eloquence, and because her quote resonates with the many CCQ topics that we discuss in class about the virtues and celebrating each person's uniqueness.

My name is Rosalind, I am a grade 5-6 SEED Educator.
This year for Black History Month, I chose to cover Jean-Michel Basquait with my students. I was inspired by my son, Nathaniel who is an art student at Concordia University who used Basquait's style in his paintings.
The students learned about Basquait, his art, and meaning behind it. After researching his art, the students chose a painting to create their own rendition. The students responded positively, asking questions beyond what I showed them to learn more. They were excited to tell other students and staff about what they learned as their work was displayed.
