Before performing first aid on a victim you should always asses the scene before your begin. Here are some things to look out for:
1. Check for hazards
2. Yell for help if alone
3. Put on PPE
4. Check responsiveness and condition of casualty
5. Decide whether or not you need to call 911

If you are dealing with a heart related injury here are some things to remember :
~ Remove casualty from heat
~ Remove excess clothing
~ Cool down casualty
~ Provide water or sports drinks if casualties condition allows~ If there are no signs of improvement call 911

When you are splinting an injury here are some things to remember:
A good splint should be padded, rigid and long enough to extend pass the joint above and below the injury. Following these steps will ensure that the patient is not further harmed!

Abandonment- If you start first aid on a person you must stay with them until someone of equal or great training takes over.

It is always important to remember all of the legal requirements that come with performing first aid:
Consent is one of the most important things a first aider needs. If you are performing first aid on an adult who is conscious you NEED consent. If the adult is unconscious you have implied consent and may carry on with your first aid duties!
