Do you or your partner struggle with uncontrollable worry and anxiety? We would like to hear about your experiences!

Despite the best of intentions, it can be hard to know how to best support your partner with anxiety. We want to learn directly from couples about what seems to help and what doesn’t.

You may be eligible to participate if you and your romantic partner:
- Are both 18-65 years old
- Both fluent in English
- Have been together for at least 6 months, currently living together
- One of you is currently experiencing excessive, uncontrollable worry about many areas of life
- Both willing to participate in a ~60 minute Zoom interview

Couples will be compensated $30 CAD each for their time. To learn more about the study and see if you are eligible, please email [email protected].

Do you and your partner ever feel like depression makes your relationship and support harder? We’re a Canadian research team at Western University studying how romantic couples cope when one or both partners are experiencing depression or depressive symptoms. Please help us understand what support looks like in real relationships of individuals with depression.

Who may be eligible?
-You are 18 or older
-You and your romantic partner have been together for at least six months and currently live together (all genders & orientations welcome)
-At least one partner currently experiences depressive symptoms (formal diagnosis of depression is not required)
-Both partners agree to participate
-Neither partner is currently pregnant nor has given birth in the last 12 months

What does participation involve?
-1 initial survey
-Daily surveys for 14 days (each survey should take a few minutes)
-2 follow-up surveys at 3 months and 6 months

Total time spent completing the surveys is estimated to be ~2 hours spread across 6 months.

All surveys are online and can be done by smartphone or computer. Compensation is provided for your time.

Romantic relationships are an important source of research in the Mood Lab. John Bowlby's (1982) Attachment Theory holds that the emotional bonds we develop with parents/guardians early in life eventually influences our attachment styles in romantic relationships. Here are the 3 attachment styles and their characteristics:

Sources: Bowlby, J. (1982). Attachment and loss (2nd ed., Vol. 1). Basic Books; Mikulincer, M., & Shaver, P. R. (2016). Attachment in adulthood: Structure, dynamics, and change. The Guilford Press.
