🔺 Can you find the red triangle?

For many learners, moments like this can quickly become frustrating when they know what they want but don’t yet have an effective way to communicate it.

In this example, the learner was searching for a specific piece and used PECS® to tell us exactly what was needed:

💬 “I want red triangle.” 🔺

Instead of guessing, prompting repeatedly, or waiting for frustration to build, the learner had a reliable way to communicate a precise request.

With PECS, as communication skills grow, learners move beyond requesting single items to communicating attributes, describing objects, and expressing increasingly specific wants and needs. 🙌

This is one of the reasons we emphasize functional communication: it helps learners participate more successfully in meaningful activities throughout the day.

📘 The Large PECS® Communication Book is designed to support that growth, providing learners with a durable communication tool that can travel across home, school, and community settings.

💰 June Special: $54 (regularly $59)

Can ABA and neurodiversity-affirming practices coexist? 🤔

This question continues to spark discussion across schools, clinics, conferences, and social media.

While these approaches are often portrayed as opposing viewpoints, a closer look reveals several shared values, including communication, autonomy, self-advocacy, and meaningful participation.

At Pyramid, we believe respectful conversations across disciplines help us better support the individuals and families we serve.

In our latest blog, Pyramid USA Consultants Jill Waegenaere, MA, CCC-SLP, and Molly Lingo, M.Ed., BCBA, explore areas of overlap between neurodiversity-affirming practices and contemporary ABA, with a special focus on the role of communication in self-advocacy.

Collaboration across disciplines helps us better support the individuals and families we serve. Share this article with an SLP, BCBA, CDA, educator, or colleague to continue the conversation.

😟😊😡 How do we learn to talk about things that happen inside of us?

Teaching emotions involves much more than matching faces to feeling words.

In this on-demand workshop, Andy Bondy, PhD, explores how individuals learn to communicate about emotions, feelings, and other “private events,” and why these skills can be especially challenging for some learners.

Participants leave with practical strategies for teaching emotional communication that can be applied across ages and ability levels.

🤝 Do neurodiversity affirming practice and ABA have more in common than social media would have us believe?

Most professionals enter the field with the same goal: helping individuals learn, communicate, and participate more fully in their lives.

Yet discussions about neurodiversity and ABA are often presented as an either/or choice.

Join Catherine Horton, MS, CCC-SLP, BCBA, CAGS and Jill Waegenaere, MA, CCC-SLP for an open and thoughtful exploration of where these perspectives overlap, the values they share, and how professionals can align their practices with neuro-affirming principles.

💬 In this 1-hour live webinar, participants will:
✔ Explore key concepts associated with the neurodiversity movement
✔ Examine areas of overlap between neurodiversity and ABA
✔ Identify ways to ensure practices remain neuro-affirming
✔ Reflect on how philosophy influences everyday decision-making

Whether you’re an SLP, CDA, educator, behaviour analyst, administrator, or support professional, this session offers an opportunity to move beyond labels and focus on what matters most: meaningful outcomes for the individuals we support.

🤝 Better learning environments don’t happen by accident; they’re designed with purpose.

Last week, more than 50 educators, SLPs, paraprofessionals, coaches, administrators, and Nebraska ASD Network coordinators gathered in Columbus, Nebraska for a two-day Pyramid Approach to Education® training presented by Pyramid consultant Jesseca Collins, M.Ed., BCBA.

Together, participants explored the nine elements of the Pyramid Approach and discussed how to apply practical, evidence-based strategies in classrooms, therapy settings, and support programs across the state.

Here’s what attendees had to say:

💬 “This information will greatly impact my classroom and how I approach teaching.”
💬 “Creating the plans makes me feel better about implementing the information on my own.”
💬 “It was very helpful to work with my team while learning. I will be able to support them better.”

One of the greatest strengths of onsite training is the opportunity for teams to learn together, collaborate around shared learners, and leave with a plan for implementation.

Thank you to the Nebraska ASD Network for hosting this engaging event and for your commitment to supporting meaningful outcomes for learners.
