Happy summer solstice, World Humanist Day, and National Indigenous Peoples Day! ☀️

06/21/2026

It’s National Indigenous Peoples Day!

From coast to coast to coast, First Nations, Inuit, and Métis peoples have shaped the history, culture, and future of this land through their knowledge, resilience, creativity, and leadership.

Today, we join people across Canada in recognizing and celebrating the richness and diversity of Indigenous cultures and communities.

Happy World Humanist Day!

We’re celebrating the values that bring humanists together around the world: reason, compassion, human rights, and a shared commitment to building a better future for everyone.

Wherever you are, we hope you'll take a moment to reflect on what humanism means to you.

The rights and freedoms we enjoy today exist because people before us took action to defend them. But those hard-won gains are never guaranteed.

Today, we are seeing growing challenges to human rights, democratic institutions, freedom of thought, and equality, both around the world and here at home.

The responsibility to protect and advance these freedoms now belongs to us. The work of defending them is never finished.

Information you can trust, for a death you can live with.

A decade ago, Canada legalized medical assistance in dying (MAID). Since then, MAID has transformed end-of-life choice and care for thousands of people across the country.

To mark this important milestone, our friends at Dying With Dignity Canada have released a new report examining public attitudes toward MAID.

They have also launched We Can Choose, a new resource hub designed to help people understand their options, prepare for conversations, and make informed choices.

Visit WeCanChoose.ca to learn more: https://www.wecanchoose.ca
And read the report here: https://www.dyingwithdignity.ca/media-center/2026-decade-of-choice-report/

The more experience that people across Canada have with medical assistance in dying (MAID), the more they support it.

National research commissioned by Dying With Dignity Canada finds that trust in Canada's MAID system is high — and grows stronger with personal experience.

Of those who knew someone with experience of MAID, more than half of those surveyed said their support increased as a result.

And about 3 in 4 seniors and caregivers said it's important that MAID remains available as an option.
