Physio tips from the clinic's biggest golf fan incoming...
Time for another Get Golf-Ready with Drew! Today the focus is on walking!
Even if you normally ride, the number of steps taken when on a golf course add up. You may find yourself walking to the far side of the green with a short-sided chip for the 18th time of the day. Or the dreaded cart path only days.
Your tissues need time to get used to this stress again. There is no magic amount of steps or distance. Just do it. Then try to do a little more the next day. If you can, get the added benefits of fresh air. If time or weather don't allow it, treadmill, or even marching in the spot, is better than nothing.
Consistent movement, both in the off-season and during golf season, plays a key role in keeping your body healthy and ready to play.

Have you met Jayson yet? 👋
Jayson is one of our fantastic Physiotherapists, and one of the newest dads on our team!
After completing his education in Scotland and gaining experience working in England, Jayson made his way back home to Ottawa and joined the Inertia team in 2021. We’re so glad he did!
Jayson has a specialization in Athletic Therapy and works closely with many of our Motor Vehicle Accident patients. His treatment philosophy is straightforward and empowering. He believes patients should understand their injury and play an active role in their recovery.
His approach combines hands-on manual therapy with individualized corrective and rehabilitative exercise programs, always aiming to get to the root of the issue and address it effectively.
When he’s not in the clinic, Jayson is usually off exploring with his growing family. Travel is a big part of his life, so if you’re planning your next trip, he’s your go-to for recommendations! 🌎✈️

Time for another Term Tip Tuesday!
✨Deficit✨
A deficit in Physiotherapy refers to a functional impairment or limitation in a person's physical abilities, such as strength, range of motion, balance, coordination, or endurance, that affects their ability to perform daily activities or participate in desired activities. This deficit may be caused by injury, illness, or a chronic condition.
Physiotherapy interventions aim to address and improve the deficit through targeted exercises, manual therapy, education, and other modalities.
Making sure to do your at home excerises and come in for regularly scheduled treatments is the best way to work through the deficit.

With the warmer weather, more and more people are getting outside and running which we LOVE to see ♥️
What we don't love to see is runners in pain! Shin splints can be one of the most painful and frustrating injuries for runners to deal with.
👉 What causes shin splints?
Generally, caused by overuse or repetitive stress on the lower leg and its connective tissues. This can result in inflammation and pain along the shinbone, which can be exacerbated by factors such as flat feet or high arches, improper footwear, or poor running technique.
👉 What are the symptoms?
Shin splints are characterized by tenderness and inflammation along the lower leg's inner edge, which can make it challenging to walk or run without experiencing pain. Pain may be felt in one or both legs and often occurs after physical activity, especially running.
👉 How to manage shin splints?
Rest and recovery are essential in managing shin splints. The first step is generally to take a break from running or any activity that aggravates the condition. However, we can help you determine the best plan to manage your injury at your first assessment. Sometimes, we can find a way to keep you running while also getting you better using other rehabilitative techniques. Applying ice to the area can also help reduce inflammation. Stretching and strengthing excerises for the lower leg muscles can aid in preventing the recurrence.
Pro-tip: Incorporating low impact activities like swimming or cycling can help maintain fitness levels while allowing your shins to recover.

Golf season is officially in full swing! How is that for a cheesy pun? 🏌️♂️
So here is another Get Golf-Ready with Drew post!
Today's tip:
Work on your balance!
Based on data from the Titleist Performance Institute, high level golfers can hold their balance standing on one leg with their eyes closed for at least 15 seconds. That's the goal.
If you are holding a balanced finish position, maybe your playing partners are less likely to notice you've snap hooked another drive into the trees 😉
Balance gets better with reps. Simple as that. Eyes open and eyes closed both help.
Stand on one foot while brushing your teeth or while pouring a cup of coffee (keep your eyes open for that one). Add small body and arm movements or stand on something soft for more challenge. Practice, practice, practice.

Alisha is one of our dedicated Physiotherapists, our Pelvic Health Physiotherapist, and our Certified Lymphedema Therapist. She’s been part of the Inertia family for 4 years, and we’re so lucky to have her!
Alisha chose to specialize in Pelvic Floor Physiotherapy because she’s passionate about women’s health. She loves educating women on the fact that many common concerns, whether related to aging, pregnancy, postpartum changes, or menopause, are treatable. These issues are common, but they are not something you simply have to “live with.” There are solutions, and she’s here to help.
Most recently, Alisha expanded her skill set even further by earning her certification as a Certified Lymphedema Therapist. This allows her to provide specialized treatments, including manual lymphatic drainage, to better support both musculoskeletal and pelvic health needs.
If you have been thinking about booking your appointment to take care of your Pelvic Health, now is the time!

Let's talk all about your initial visit to the clinic today! We want to ensure your first visit and every visit after is wonderful! We try to go above and beyond for each client.
👉 Booking - First we need to book your assessment or first massage: if it is your first Physio or Acupuncture appointment make sure it is booked as a New Assessment and not a treatment. Don't worry, all new assessments also receive their first treatment. The new assessment appointment ensures you have enough time with your therapist. Your first massage can be booked for the length you feel most comfortable with - 30, 45, 60 or 90 minute massage!
👉 Intake form - now that your appointment is booked the next step is our intake form! You will get one of these emailed to you whenever you are doing a new service at our clinic. Each service has different intake questions, so please make sure you complete each form that our system sends you. These forms are to give your therapist all of the information they need of your medical history, purpose for seeking therapy, and any goals you may have.
👉 Check in with the front desk - Our front desk staff is amazing and will guide you through any other steps you may need to take before seeing your therapist. This is a great chance to add any insurance you might have so our receptionists can take care of that for you.
👉 The assessment - Your therapist will go over your intake form with you and discuss the reason for your visit. They will then fully assess your pain or injury, determining any underlying causes. They will provide education on their findings and provide recommendations for home.
👉 Treatment plan - You and your therapist will then discuss a treatment plan based on your needs and goals. You will also get your first hands on manual treatment.
👉 Pre-book - As you are leaving, we recommend that you pre-book your next appointment with our lovely front desk staff, to ensure that we fully get to the bottom of your pain/injury.
