Part 2/2: This past weekend, our Lu’s Taekwon-Do family came together to celebrate a very special occasion—Senior Grandmaster Phap Lu’s birthday. 🎂🥋

It was an evening filled with laughter, stories, friendship, and appreciation for the man who has dedicated his life to teaching and mentoring others through Taekwon-Do.

Seeing students, instructors, families, and friends gathered together was a reminder that Lu’s Taekwon-Do is more than a martial arts school—it’s a community built on shared values, lifelong friendships, and a legacy that spans generations.

Thank you to everyone who joined us in celebrating Senior Grandmaster Lu and all that he has contributed to our school and the Taekwon-Do community.

Part 1/2: Happy Birthday, Senior Grandmaster Phap Lu! 🎉🥋

We celebrate not only your birthday, but the incredible legacy you have built over a lifetime of dedication to Taekwon-Do.

From your beginnings in Vietnam, to helping grow Taekwon-Do in Canada, to teaching and mentoring generations of students, your impact extends far beyond the dojang. Through your leadership, countless students have learned confidence, discipline, perseverance, and respect.

For over 40 years, Lu’s Taekwon-Do has been shaped by your vision, passion, and commitment to preserving the authentic teachings of General Choi Hong Hi. The community you have built continues to inspire students of all ages to strive for excellence both on and off the mats.

Thank you for the lives you have touched, the lessons you have shared, and the legacy you continue to pass on to future generations.

Happy Birthday, Grandmaster. Your influence lives on through every student who proudly carries forward the values you have taught us.

Bringing together the best from across Ontario 🇨🇦👊

An incredible unofficial “Team Ontario” training session led by Sabum Curtis Lu alongside dedicated instructors from schools across the province.

A day of learning, sharing, and pushing each other forward—breaking barriers and moving as one TKD family. 🥋🔥

Grateful for the unity, the energy, and the passion for this beautiful martial art.

We’re just getting started. Let’s keep building, growing, and standing strong together.

Our team just leveled up 🔥🥋

Introducing our new team jackets. Designed by our members, for our members. Every detail was voted on to make sure everyone had a voice in the process.

Because at our school, it’s not just about training hard, it’s about building a team where everyone feels included, takes ownership, and wears their pride on their sleeve (literally).

We are proud of this crew and proud of this school. 👊

Today we are proud to introduce a new tradition at Lu’s Taekwon-Do: the Taekwon-Do Spirit Award🥋✨

Each year, this award will be presented to a student who truly lives the tenets of Taekwon-Do—courtesy, integrity, perseverance, self-control, and indomitable spirit—going above and beyond both inside and outside the dojang. This is the standard we strive to cultivate in every student who trains with us.

Our inaugural recipient is Boosabum Matthew Harding.

Mr. Harding is the definition of dedication—often the first to arrive and the last to leave, always ready to give his time and energy to support others. Last year, he pushed his own limits by competing at the CHITF World Championships in Puerto Rico for patterns and power breaking, while continuing to serve selflessly as an assistant instructor.

But what truly sets him apart is his character. While traveling to Puerto Rico, when a Grandmaster and his family faced flight cancellations and lost luggage, Mr. Harding didn’t hesitate—he stepped in and provided them a place to stay, without being asked.

This is what Taekwon-Do spirit looks like. It extends far beyond our school—it connects everyone who wears the dobok as family.

Congratulations, Mr. Harding. You embody everything we stand for. 👏

A huge congratulations to all our students who competed last week in CHITF’s General Choi Memorial Cup. 🥇🥈🥉

For a lot of our students, it was their first time competing. They trained hard leading up to the event and did their best. We are extremely proud of their effort and can’t wait to see them bring all they’ve learned from the tournament and apply it to their training.

Also, a thank you to our black belts and colour belts who umpired, score kept and did everything they could to help where needed. Many hands make light work and we’re thankful for your support!
