As your due date gets closer, you might start hearing more about baby positioning.
Most babies settle head down before birth, which is known as the vertex position and is usually considered the most ideal for delivery. Some babies may be breech or lying sideways earlier in pregnancy, and many will still move around quite a bit before the final weeks.
If you’re in your second or third trimester, there are a few everyday habits that may help support comfortable positioning for both you and baby:
👶 Getting up and moving regularly throughout the day
👶 Sitting with your hips slightly higher than your knees or using a birthing ball
👶 Sleeping on your side with support between your legs
👶 Gentle movement like walking or swimming
👶 Avoiding staying slouched or cross legged for long periods
Every pregnancy is different, but understanding how baby’s position can affect labour can help you feel more informed and prepared.
Save this for later or send it to someone currently counting down to baby’s arrival!
And if you’re getting ready for birth and the newborn stage, our Free Baby-Care Class is a great place to start. Led by Registered Midwives, our classes cover essential newborn care, feeding, sleep, bathing, and more so you can head into parenthood feeling more confident.

Have you ever heard that pregnant people should avoid sleeping on their back? 👀
It’s one of the most talked about pregnancy “rules” online, but the reality is a little more reassuring than many people think.
While side sleeping is generally recommended in later pregnancy, waking up on your back occasionally is very common and usually not a reason to panic. Your body will often naturally prompt you to shift positions if needed.
Save this for the nights you’re lying awake Googling pregnancy sleep positions at 2am 😴

No one really prepares you for how exhausting pregnancy tiredness can be.
It’s not just “feeling sleepy.” It’s trying to fall asleep while dealing with heartburn, constant bathroom trips, restless legs, strange dreams, and finding a comfortable position with a growing bump.
A few simple adjustments can sometimes make nights a little easier though ⬇️
🌙 Using a pregnancy pillow can help support your back, hips, and bump
🌙 Low iron can sometimes contribute to restless legs, so it’s worth speaking with your provider
🌙 Sleeping with your upper body slightly raised may help with nighttime reflux
🌙 Heading to bed earlier can help you take advantage of your body’s natural sleep rhythms
