On June 17, Selwyn House gathered in Coristine Hall to celebrate a special milestone as we honoured our graduating class. With a bagpiper leading the graduates into the hall and the singing of the school hymn, the evening was filled with pride, tradition, and celebration.

Head Prefect Eli Raisman delivered a heartfelt Valedictory Address, reflecting on the people who shaped his Selwyn journey. His words earned a standing ovation as he reminded everyone of the empathy, compassion, generosity, kindness, and love that define the Selwyn community.

Graduates were celebrated as they crossed the stage to receive their diplomas, surrounded by family, friends, faculty, and staff who supported them along the way. A special Selwyn tradition continued as each graduate received an Old Boy tie, officially welcoming them into the Selwyn House Old Boys’ Association.

The evening concluded with O Canada, accompanied on piano by graduating student Nathan Chen, followed by a celebration in the Rossy Agora.

Congratulations to the Class of 2026! We are incredibly proud of all you have accomplished and look forward to seeing all that lies ahead.

Varsity Baseball made history this spring, capturing the first Baseball Championship in school history!

After an outstanding regular season that saw the team finish second in the division with just one loss, the Gryphons carried their momentum into the playoffs. Victories over Pierrefonds in the quarter-finals and Westwood in a thrilling extra-inning semi-final set up a championship showdown with John Rennie.

The boys rose to the occasion, delivering a dominant defensive performance and earning a 2–0 shutout victory to claim the title. Pitchers Damian L. and Laurent M. combined for the shutout, while veteran catcher Joey D. helped lead the defensive effort. Tyler P. sealed the win with a spectacular catch in the final inning, and Damian was recognized for his exceptional season by being named League MVP.

Congratulations to Coach Tom Downey and the entire team on an unforgettable season and a historic championship! Special thanks to Mr. Bedard for stepping in as photographer.

The 28th Annual Old Boys & Friends’ Golf Tournament took place on Monday, May 25 and brought together Old Boys, parents, and friends of Selwyn House School for another memorable day on the course. Although the morning began with a light drizzle, the weather soon cleared and the sun came out, creating a fitting backdrop for an afternoon of golf, connection, and camaraderie at Club de Golf Pinegrove.

From the first tee to the final toast, the tournament once again showcased the strength of the Selwyn community and the enduring appeal of this longstanding tradition. Golfers enjoyed a wonderful day reconnecting with classmates, colleagues, and fellow supporters of the school while supporting initiatives that enrich the Sel/wyn experience.

Thanks to the incredible generosity of our sponsors, donors, golfers, auction bidders, volunteers, and staff, a total of $83,280 was raised in support of the Old Boys’ Association Endowment Fund, the Old Boys’ Trip Fund, and the Old Boys’ Speaker Series. This represents an increase of more than $10,000 compared to last year’s tournament and will help create meaningful opportunities for current and future Selwyn students.

One of the most exciting moments of the day came during the draw for the 2027 Masters experience raffle. Current parent Robbie Dickson was announced as this year’s winner, while the raffle itself raised an impressive $14,600 for the Old Boys’ Endowment Fund.

This tournament would not be possible without the generosity and enthusiasm of our sponsors, prize donors, volunteers, and participants. We are incredibly grateful for their continued partnership and the important role they play in making this event such a success year after year.

As we reflect on another outstanding tournament, we are reminded that the true value of this event lies not only in the funds it raises, but also in the connections it strengthens across the Selwyn community.

Thank you to everyone who joined us at Pinegrove this year. We look forward to welcoming you back for the 29th Annual Old Boys & Friends’ Golf Tournament, with registration opening in early 2027.

From May 21 to May 26, 10 members of the Selwyn Debate Team went to Truro, Nova Scotia to participate in two of the most competitive events in Canadian Debating. First was the Senior National Debating Championship, where all of the best high school teams from around the country compete together. These teams are formed from Provincial Champions, and all of the teams have had to qualify and win to even get to the tournament. The team of Ken G. and Joseph B. made it all the way to the quarter finals (the first Quebec team to do this since 2021) with an impressive 5-1 score. Jacob B. also won the Best Quebec Speaker Award.

Immediately after the tournament, two of our debaters, Finlay M. and William L. tried out for the elite Team Canada international debating team. They earned the right to do this by placing in the top three speakers from Quebec. It was a gruelling six rounds of World Schools' Debate where debaters compete as individuals, and are teamed with other debaters from other provinces rotating each round. We are still waiting on the results of the tryout, and we wish our debaters the best of luck.

On May 31 the AP Calculus class welcomed the Kindergarten students to the Macaulay building basement. Each Kindergarten student was paired with a Grade 11 student and participated in one of three math activities. Working together, students coloured fractals, carefully cut paper to discover the symmetry of snowflakes and used sidewalk chalk to geometrically create a Gryphon using three- and four-sided polygons. What a treat to see such joy and passion for mathematics being shared between our youngest and oldest students. Well done to all our mathematicians! -Ms. Sayegh, Senior School Mathematics Department Head

Grade 11 students kicked off their graduation weekend on May 14 with the annual Heroes Breakfast, an opportunity to recognize and celebrate someone who has played an important role in supporting them throughout their academic journey. On the following Friday morning, the tradition of the Downey Brothers annual dodgeball game continued as students battled it out for bragging rights in a spirited and highly competitive matchup. Later that afternoon, students and staff gathered for a celebratory BBQ hosted by the Nadler family, enjoying great food and one final opportunity to spend time together before the evening festivities.

The community then came together at the Windsor Ballrooms for the class of 2026 graduation dinner dance. Beautiful floral arrangements and décor, generously provided by BLOEM Atelier Floral, helped transform the venue for the occasion. Parents, staff, students, and guests enjoyed an evening filled with heartfelt speeches, laughter, and reflection as they celebrated the graduates' time at Selwyn House and the brotherhood they have built along the way. The dance floor was enjoyed throughout the night as students marked the end of one chapter and the beginning of the next. The celebrations continued into Saturday with gathering in the countryside, providing one final opportunity for classmates to come together and create lasting memories before graduation.

The annual 'Til Next Time Assembly brought the Selwyn House community together to celebrate another memorable year. Led by the House Heads, the event reflected on the many highlights, accomplishments, and milestones that shaped the school year, while a heartfelt and humorous tribute video expressed the students’ gratitude to the dedicated faculty and staff who helped make it all possible.

The assembly also featured the official announcement of the 2026–2027 Prefects and House Heads, as well as the presentation of several prestigious awards. Lucas was awarded the House Cup Trophy on behalf of his House for earning the most house points throughout the year, while Vojtech B. received the inaugural Individual House Point Trophy, a new award recognizing students who excel through their academic, athletic, extracurricular, and community contributions under the school's new house point system.

A cherished tradition followed as the graduating class was celebrated through the annual Now & Then video, showcasing each graduate’s first-year photo alongside their graduation portrait and highlighting how much they have grown during their time at Selwyn. One of the most moving moments of the assembly came when Nathan Chen performed a beautiful piano rendition of See You Again, dedicating the piece to three close friends who had made his Selwyn journey even more meaningful. As the audience quietly sang along, the performance created a powerful sense of reflection and appreciation.

The celebration concluded with the Grade 11 gratitude circle, where students passed a football from friend to friend, sharing words of appreciation and thanking one another for the memories they had created together. It was a fitting end to a year marked by friendship, achievement, and community.
