Conduit bending looks easy… until it’s your first time holding the bender.

This is one of those skills that takes practice, patience, and a few “okay, let’s try that again” moments.

From offsets to 90s, students learn how to bend conduit with precision because in the electrical trade, clean work matters. 👊

And trust us… landing that first perfect bend feels GOOD.

WHAT’S THE CODE?!⚡

Let’s test your electrical code knowledge.

Question of the week:
According to the Canadian Electrical Code…
What is the minimum height required for receptacles installed above a kitchen countertop? 👇

A) 75 mm
B) 100 mm
C) 150 mm
D) 200 mm

No cheating. Don’t go flipping through the code book just yet 😅

Drop your guess in the comments.

Before students are wiring panels or troubleshooting systems on job sites, they learn the fundamentals first.

In this session, students are learning how to safely cut and work with strut using a portable band saw — a skill used every day in the electrical trade for supporting conduit, panels, and electrical systems.

These hands on skills are part of what builds confidence in the shop before stepping onto a real job site.

Every skilled electrician starts with the basics… then builds from there. 👊

What is conduit?

Think of conduit as the protective pathway for electrical wiring.

Instead of leaving wires exposed, electricians run them through conduit to help protect against:
✔ Damage
✔ Moisture
✔ Dust & debris
✔ Accidental contact

It also helps keep installations organized, safer, and up to code.

You’ll commonly see conduit used in commercial and industrial buildings… and learning how to measure, bend, and install it properly is a huge part of electrical training.

And yes… conduit bending will definitely test your patience at first 😅
But once it clicks? It’s one of the most satisfying skills to learn in the trade.

Becoming a certified electrician in Manitoba happens level by level.

Students who complete pre-employment training earn their Level 1 accreditation plus 900 apprenticeship hours toward their career.

From there, apprentices move through:
✔ Level 2 → code, conduit & commercial work
✔ Level 3 → troubleshooting & advanced systems
✔ Level 4 → preparing for certification

The final step? Completing your apprenticeship hours and passing the Red Seal exam to earn your Journeyperson Electrician ticket.

The apprenticeship path combines:
✔ Paid on-the-job training
✔ Classroom learning
✔ Real industry experience

You earn while you learn… while building a career in the trades.

9 months ago, many of these students walked through our doors with little to no experience in the electrical trade.

Some had never bent conduit.
Some had never opened the Electrical Code book.
Some had never picked up the tools they now use with confidence every day.

Today is their last day at the Training Center… and they are leaving with knowledge, hands on experience, problem solving skills, and a foundation that will carry them into the industry. ⚡

It’s been incredible watching the growth, the friendships, the late study sessions, the laughs in the lab, and the confidence built along the way.

The version of yourself that started 9 months ago would be proud of where you are now.

Congrats to the class as they take the next step into the trade 👏

Starting a career in the electrical trade can feel intimidating at first… especially when you’re learning skills that directly impact safety, problem solving, and real job sites. ⚡

That’s why hearing feedback like this means so much to us.

Our goal has always been to create more than just a classroom. We want students to leave feeling confident, capable, and prepared for the realities of the trade through a combination of hands on training, theory, and mentorship from instructors who have real experience in the field.

When students tell us they feel ready to take on challenges in the electrical industry, that’s what it’s all about 👏

Thank you for trusting the IBEW Training Center to be part of your journey into the trade.

Thinking about becoming an electrician? Your future starts with learning the fundamentals the right way.

That first code exam pressure is real. 😅🥵

You go in thinking it’s about memorizing everything… and quickly realize it’s not.
It’s about knowing how to navigate the book.
Where to look.
How to find what you need under pressure.

That shift changes everything.

Same information, different approach, and suddenly it feels manageable.

And that’s where we come in 👇
We’ll teach you how to navigate the code book step by step, so when it’s time for the (open book 👀) exam, you’re not guessing… you know exactly what you’re doing.

Less panic. More confidence.
