Mathematical Excellence!
This year, our students from Grades 8 through 12 demonstrated exceptional creativity and analytical prowess in the internationally recognized University of Waterloo CEMC Mathematics Contests.
Math contests serve a vital role in our students' development. These challenges help learners "foster creative problem-solving" and "build confidence in their ability to tackle difficult problems—a key ingredient for success both inside and outside the classroom."
Grade 9 - 10 Highlights: Pascal & Cayley
Our younger mathematicians set a high bar this year, showing that our math program is thriving at the foundational levels.
Pascal Contest (Grade 9): Our school achieved a phenomenal 2nd place ranking in Manitoba and ranked 61st nationally in Canada.
An impressive 23 out of 27 participating students scored above the national average.
Student Joshua H. (Grade 8): Placed 2nd in the Province, a remarkable feat competing against older peers!
Student David L. (Grade 9): Placed 9th in the Province out of 619 total participants in Manitoba.
Fryer Contest (Grade 9): Continued the momentum with a 4th place provincial ranking.
Cayley Contest (Grade 10): Perfection in participation—100% of our participating students scored above the provincial average among 520 participants.
Galois Contest (Grade 10): Student Claire S. scored 9th place in the province.
Grade 11 and 12 Success: Fermat, Hypatia & Euclid
As the problems grew more complex, our senior students rose to the challenge, placing consistently within the top tier of the province.
Fermat Contest (Grade 11): Our school ranked 8th in Manitoba.
6 out of 7 students scored above the provincial average.
Student Elsa Z.: Ranked 17th in the Province out of 416 participants.
Hypatia Contest (Grade 11): Student Kelly S. secured a stellar 6th place provincial ranking.
Euclid Contest (Grade 12): In this premier graduating-year contest, our school ranked 6th in the Province, with our top student, Cade F, placing 12th.
By engaging with these "challenging yet achievable" problems, our students learn formulas AND how to think.
