📚📣 The Manitoba government has pledged an additional $2.5 million to support adult learning and literacy initiatives across the province, according to Advanced Education and Training Minister Renée Cable.
An allocation of $1 million from this funding is earmarked for First Nations and northern communities, focusing on recruiting and retaining professionals to deliver these programs.
Furthermore, $100,000 will be provided through the Mino'Ayaawag Ikwewag strategy to support 60 Indigenous women participating in early childhood education, adult education and employment, and family support worker programs at Urban Circle. This investment aims to enhance programming through the integration of ancestral teachings, traditional ceremonies, and land-based learning opportunities.
With approximately 150 students currently enrolled at Urban Circle, this funding will enable the school to welcome an additional cohort, bringing the total budget for adult learning and literacy to $24.9 million for the fiscal year.
