MSBA was a proud delegate today during the Manitoba Chambers of Commerce Economic Development Tour of Winkler and surrounding community. With representation from Garden Valley School Division - GVSD’s own Chair, Leah Klassen, who also serves as our Association’s Interim President, the ties between the core work of school boards and local industry could not have been greater!

Special thanks to MCC President Chuck Davidson for leading such a fascinating tour of south-central Manitoba’s product, promise and potential!

What are the industries we visited looking for in our future grads? As cited by Patrick Lencioni in his book “The Ideal Team Player”, Manitoba needs eager labour market entrants who are “hungry, humble and smart.” A clarion call as Manitoba’s public education system seeks to equip our students to make an impact in our local, national and global economies!

Warmest congratulations et sincères félicitations to the recipients of this year’s Mark Dickof Memorial Scholarship Award, for their leadership and advocacy in support of community mental well-being and destigmatization of mental illness in Manitoba!

This year’s deserving recipients are Ethan Saguid of Sisler High School in the Winnipeg School Division et Danika Vermette de l’École Pointe des Chênes dans la Division scolaire franco-manitobaine.

Both of these students have made significant contributions by creating programs or cultures of service for mental health promotion in their schools and among their peers. We appreciate their dedication, commitment and the fine examples they have set. Bravo!

Our thanks as MSBA to Brian Mayes, Councillor for Saint Vital for his establishment of this important award in honour of his late friend Mark Dickof and to the Canadian Mental Health Association Manitoba and Winnipeg for being a key partner in bestowing this honour upon students who truly et véritablement make a difference!

HAVE YOU EVER CONSIDERED RUNNING FOR SCHOOL TRUSTEE IN MANITOBA?

School trustees play an important role in shaping public education—helping set policy, guide budgets, and ensure local community voices are part of the decisions that affect our schools. And one key message is this: you don’t need to be a politician to run, just someone who cares about students, families, and public education in Manitoba!

As we head toward the October 28, 2026, school board elections, MSBA has compiled helpful resources for anyone who’s curious about taking that first step, along with short videos from current education leaders who share why trusteeship matters and encourage Manitobans to get involved.

👉 If you’ve ever thought, “Maybe I could do that”, now is a great time to learn more.

Check out MSBA's dedicated election page at www.elect2026.ca to see if running for school trustee might be right for you!

Strong schools start with engaged communities. 💬 Consider exploring, sharing, or tagging someone who should take a look.
