Meet Simon.

A very talented student of our 2-Year Cinematography Program whose short films are already making their way onto the festival circuit.

For Simon, one of the biggest advantages of studying at PFI is the creative freedom to tell the stories he wants to tell, surrounded by a supportive community of filmmakers who help bring those ideas to life.

We're excited to see where his journey takes him next.

THE SHOT vs. BTS

One of the biggest challenges of Dead Men Don’t Bleed was making the audience feel sympathy for a psychopath.

Not an easy task—but our students pulled it off.

A look behind the scenes of last year’s film and the work that brought this complex character to life.

A glimpse behind the scenes of As Light As Ash, a powerful story following a German priest during World War II.

From transforming locations into period-accurate settings to detailed costumes, production design, and cinematography, the team put an incredible amount of work into every frame.

It’s officially shooting period at Prague Film Institute — which means long nights, heavy gear, coffee overload, and students fully locked into their final films.

These BTS shots come from a recording studio location that the crew transformed into a fully functioning radio station for their film. Always fun to see how students turn real spaces into completely different worlds through production design, lighting, and creativity!

At Prague Film Institute, final films sometimes mean fog machines, abandoned buildings, fake blood, and surviving until sunrise...

We’re proud to support our students’ creativity and give them the freedom to turn even the wildest film ideas into reality.

When one of Hollywood’s most respected sound mixers walks into your classroom, you know something special is happening.

This week at Prague Film Institute, we had the honor of welcoming Tod A. Maitland for an exclusive workshop with our students.

Tod is a 6-time Academy Award nominee and BAFTA winner whose work includes films like Joker, The Irishman, and Killers of the Flower Moon. He shared stories from major productions, insights into production sound, and experiences working with legendary directors like Martin Scorsese and Steven Spielberg.

The visit happened through a real industry connection — our program leader Robin Kasparik - Film Director of the Prague Film Institute is currently working on Scorsese’s new film shooting in the Czech Republic with Leonardo DiCaprio, where Tod is leading the production sound team.

Experiences like this are what Prague Film Institute is all about — bringing students closer to the real film industry.

The SHOT vs. BTS
Shot on the Blackmagic Cinema Camera 6K Pro, the students embraced a naturalistic approach — using Prague’s streets and riverside locations as the film’s visual foundation.
Behind the scenes of Cloudly, a student-made short film created entirely at Prague Film Institute, where the crew relied heavily on available sunlight and kept lighting equipment to a minimum — letting the atmosphere of the city shape the final image.

Makeup is incredibly diverse — from creating a natural look where the actor seems to wear no makeup at all, to subtle details like tired eyes or sick skin tones. And on the other side, it can transform into burn effects, cuts, wounds, and dramatic character changes.
In this workshop, students explore how makeup becomes a powerful storytelling tool on screen.
Because great makeup isn’t about being seen — it’s about making the story believable.

Cinematographer Nicolas Bordier introduces students to industry-leading gear like the ARRI ALEXA, Sony VENICE and anamorphic lenses — showing how technology shapes cinematic storytelling.

He also leads a hands-on 16mm workshop with the ARRI 416, giving students real experience with shooting on film.

Because great cinematography starts with understanding the tools behind the image.
