An diesem Mittwoch (20.7.2022) beginnt die Tagung "Jewish Responses to Nationalism in Central and East Central Europe", die die Universität Potsdam gemeinsam mit Kolleg*innen der Universität Haifa veranstalten. Alle Interessierten sind herzlich eingeladen!

Die Tagung findet vom 20.7. bis zum 22.7 in der Gewölbehalle am Haus der Brandenburgisch-Preußischen Geschichte am Neuen Markt in Potsdam statt. Die Eröffnung ist am Mittwoch um 16.00 Uhr, den Eröffnungsvortrag hält der Historiker und Rektor der Uni Haifa, Prof. Gur Alroey:

International Conference: Jewish Responses to Nationalism in Central and East Central Europe

In view of the current political boom of populist nationalism (not only) in Europe, the question of the exclusionary as well as openly anti-Semitic potential of contemporary nationalist rhetoric becomes virulent again. The conference will take a comparative look at historical and contemporary developments in Central and East-Central Europe focussing on Jewish critics of ethnic nationalism.

Our PhD candidate, Jan Wilkens, will partecipate to an online conversation on the history of Beth Chayim Chadashim, founded as the first synagogue by and for gay and le***an Jews, 50 years ago in Los Angeles.

The lecture is organized within the framework of the research group Gender/Q***r and Jewish Studies associated with the Selma Stern Center for Jewish Studies.
