❌ Being a Native Speaker Does NOT Guarantee a Band 9 in IELTS Writing!
One of the biggest myths about IELTS is that native English speakers automatically get Band 9 in Writing.
The truth is that IELTS Writing is not a test of how naturally you speak English. It’s a test of how effectively you can write according to specific academic criteria.
Many native speakers lose marks because they:
🔹 Don’t answer the question fully.
🔹 Write off-topic ideas.
🔹 Use informal language.
🔹 Organize their essays poorly.
🔹 Lack clear paragraph structure.
🔹 Make grammar and punctuation mistakes.
🔹 Use vocabulary naturally but not accurately.
So, what actually leads to a high Writing score?
✅ Task Achievement / Task Response
Answer every part of the question clearly and develop your ideas fully.
✅ Coherence & Cohesion
Organize your essay logically with clear paragraphs and smooth connections between ideas.
✅ Lexical Resource
Use a wide range of vocabulary accurately, not just complicated words.
✅ Grammatical Range & Accuracy
Demonstrate control of different sentence structures while minimizing mistakes.
A Band 9 essay is not about sounding like a native speaker.
It’s about demonstrating excellent writing skills according to the IELTS marking criteria.
That’s why many non-native candidates achieve Band 8 or 9, while some native speakers don’t.
Study the exam, understand the criteria, and practice strategically—not just naturally.
