🌿 The Forest Wastes Nothing 🌿
On Sunday we spent the day following rivers, exploring forest trails, becoming soil detectives, discovering tiny creatures, climbing fallen trees, scrambling over boulders, splashing in the water and creating our own miniature compost worlds to take home.
Along the way we discovered something simple but powerful: in nature, nothing is wasted. Old leaves, fallen wood, insects, fungi, soil and new growth are all part of the same story.
By the end we were muddy, wet, tired and happy.
Thank you to all the families who joined us this season. 💚
ReWild Family Adventures now pause for summer and return on 27th September with Summer’s Last Wild Days.
Have a wonderful summer everyone ☀️🌿

🌿 ReWild Family Adventures – Sunday 14th June 🌿
ReWild Family Adventures are gentle, nature-led experiences for families of all ages, offering space to slow down, explore, connect and enjoy a little adventure together.
This June we’re heading into the forest to explore nature’s hidden cycles…
Inspired by World Environment Day, this month’s adventure is all about discovering how rivers, roots, soil and tiny creatures work together — and how, in nature, nothing is wasted.
As we wander through forest trails beside the river, we’ll slow down and notice what is happening beneath our feet and all around us:
🍃 Searching for signs of life and hidden forest worlds
🌱 Exploring soil, roots, rivers and the tiny creatures that help forests grow
🪵 Discovering how nature recycles and reuses everything
🌿 Creating our own miniature take-home compost worlds
Feel Unsure?
Yes, these are walking meets (usually around 4–5km), but they’re really about slowing down together, exploring nature as a family, and sharing simple, joy-filled adventures that spark connection, curiosity and a love for the wild.
The day is child-paced and semi-structured. We go slowly, allowing plenty of time to stop, explore, play and adventure along the way.
Although I’ll have some activities in my back pocket, we also follow the interests of the children and their natural curiosity.
A gentle, child-led day outdoors with time to explore, create, picnic and connect together in nature.

🌿 ReWild Summer Sierra Adventure Days - A different kind of Summer Camp! 🌿
I created ReWild Summer Sierra Adventure Days for a very particular age.
The 11 - 15 year olds who have started to outgrow a lot of traditional camps.
The ones who don’t want to spend the day doing organised games.
But who still need adventure.
Still need challenge.
Still need somewhere to belong.
A typical day might involve navigating a forest trail, building a shelter, learning to use a map, scrambling over rocks, creating with small bushcraft tools, solving problems together and covering a few kilometres on foot without even noticing.
What I love most is watching young people arrive a little unsure of themselves and gradually settle into the freedom, responsibility and confidence that comes from doing real things outdoors.
Not being entertained.
Not being rushed.
Just trusted with something meaningful.

I am so happy to be seeing Tokyo expanding! 🌱Kai Chang has been trail blazing forest school in Tokyo for several years and his work is a beautiful blend of nature immersion, adventure and child led exploration.
Anyone in Yokosuka or Yokohama missing ReWild Child and looking for an outdoor programme - please check his new programme out.
I know whatever Kai has planned will be wonderful. He is a natural and I’m in awe of what he creates 🌱✨

On Sunday our ReWild TEEN adventures met for another brilliant day outdoors. 🌿
Compared to some of our recent mountain meets, this trail was slower, simpler and more mellow — a gentle adjustment to the summer heat — but no less memorable.
Throughout the day the group were challenged to think, adapt and work together in different outdoor situations, solving practical challenges and figuring things out as a team along the trail.
There was plenty of problem solving, creativity and chaos 🤣 alongside quieter moments too — walking, talking, sharing ideas, helping each other and simply spending long hours outdoors together.
I think what I love most about these days is watching connection happen naturally when there’s space, movement and adventure mixed together.
ReWild TEEN is now taking a short summer break, but we’ll be back in September with our new Autumn Season 🍂

🌿 ReWild TWEEN/TEEN returns - THIS Sunday (MAY 24th) 🌿
This month’s mountain adventure day has an expedition feel to it.
Heading out together, we will be working in small teams with a limited selection of kit — making decisions, solving challenges and figuring things out together as we move through the landscape.
Using maps and the terrain around them, the kids will plan their route, estimate timings and decide what feels realistic for the day ahead.
Along the way they’ll face practical outdoor scenarios — from reading weather and interpreting cloud patterns, to exploring what natural resources around them could help in an unexpected situation, challenging them to think creatively about water, safety, shelter and what they’d actually need outdoors if things didn’t go to plan.
There’ll still be plenty of time for everything that makes these days feel special too — scrambling over rocks, exploring, talking, resting and simply spending long hours outside together.
For ages 11+.
Open to new families 🌿

As my own children move into the tween and teen years, there’s something I’ve become increasingly aware of — and I think many parents feel it too. 🌿
Somewhere around the tween years, many children become deeply aware of being watched.
And from there, things begin to change.
You start to see how quickly childhood can begin revolving around appearance, trends, brands, online culture and social status. Not because children are shallow or doing anything wrong — but because belonging matters.
Children adapt to the culture around them. They learn what’s socially safe. What’s “cool”. What gets approval.
And often, what quietly disappears in the process is playfulness. Silliness. Enthusiasm. Curiosity. The freedom to just be themselves. ✨
In many playgrounds by this age, climbing trees, shouting, pretending, being visibly enthusiastic about things or simply acting like children no longer feels socially safe.
And honestly, I think a lot of parents feel this happening — even if we rarely say it out loud.
But over the last few months on our ReWild TEEN hikes, I’ve noticed something else entirely.
The atmosphere shifts.
The kids stop trying so hard.
They climb rocks.
Run.
Get muddy.
Play games.
Talk nonsense.
Talk deeply.
Over the course of these hikes, I’ve watched groups of teens quietly compete to scramble over huge granite boulders, help each other on climbs or across boggy paths and disappear into conversations that seem to pick up exactly where they left off the month before.🌲
There’s a kind of ease that comes when children — and parents — realise they’re around others who see the world in a similar way.
One of my favourite moments this season was hearing my daughter deep in conversation with another teen about a strange fantasy series she loves — the kind of books she’d never really found anyone else around her to have read.
Deep, in conversations they were still talking about it while scrambling over rocks and weaving through forest trails back to the car.
Since then, she’s been reading more of the series so they can continue the conversation next time they meet.
That moment stayed with me. ✨
Because I think many children are craving spaces where they can relax back into themselves.
And honestly, I think parents are too.
The parents soften out there as well.
We walk hard. We earn the rest. Then families sit quietly by rivers or on warm rocks while the teens disappear off climbing, chatting or exploring nearby. Nobody is trying to impress anyone. There’s very little pressure to entertain, hover or socially navigate.
People just… exhale.🌿
And perhaps that’s what ReWild TEEN really is.
Not hiking.
Not outdoor learning.
Not bushcraft.
But space.
Space for children to stay playful, curious and fully themselves for a little longer.
Space for families to find other families who value similar things.
Space to remember that meaningful connection doesn’t have to revolve around trends, algorithms or image.
And honestly?
I think that matters more than ever.
I’d genuinely love to know if this resonates with other parents too - let me know in comments.
🌿
Our next ReWild TEEN Adventure Day takes place on Sunday May 24th and is open to new families who’d like to experience it before our regular meets return in autumn.

There’s a stage — often around 12 or 13 — where many children quietly outgrow typical summer camps.
They don’t want games.
They don’t want to be entertained.
But they’re not quite ready for long days at home or on screens either.
They need something more.
Space. Challenge. Independence.
Something to step into.
Our ReWild Sierra Adventure Days are designed for that in-between age — small groups, mountain days, real outdoor skills, and the experience of doing something that actually engages them again.

🌲 ReWild TEEN – It’s a Wrap 🌲
Back in February, we launched something new for our Tweens and Teens.
A small group of families, coming together once a month, out in nature.
Yesterday marked our final session of the Spring Season.
Over these three months, we’ve covered ground —
7–10km each time.
Flat paths, rocky climbs, river crossings, stretches that asked a little more.
We’ve pushed boundaries.
Gone a bit further.
Taken small, real risks.
Along the way, we built navigation skills —
learning to read the landscape, use a map and compass, take bearings, plan routes, and move from A to B with confidence.
All of it woven into the day.
Learning without it feeling like learning.
But it’s been much more than that.
Families who arrived as strangers, looking for something simple and real —
time outdoors, together — have found that.
The awkwardness fades quickly out here.
Teens walking side by side, talking, laughing, just being themselves.
No pressure, no noise — just space.
And in that space, something shifts.
Confidence grows.
Connections deepen.
Friendships begin, naturally.
This is what ReWild TEEN has quietly become. 🌿
⭐️Teen Adventure Taster Day ⭐️
We’ll be running a Teen Adventure Taster Day on Sunday 24th May for new families with tweens/teens who are curious to experience it before sessions return in September.
If you’ve been watching from the sidelines, this is your chance to step in.
