ANNA DOBRUCKA

Anna Dobrucka is a Cieszyn-born composer, pianist, and creator. She studied composition with Thomas Reiner in Australia and with Riccardo Vaglini at the Venice Conservatory, where she graduated with highest marks and honors. Her extensive musical training includes piano performance and the Dalcroze method at the University of Silesia, the Conservatorio Superior in Valencia, and the Haute école de musique in Geneva. Additionally, she holds a Master’s degree in Political Science, a background that facilitated her research on transatlantic relations in the Azores Islands and her work with the presidency of the Catalan Parliament in Barcelona.

Anna’s diverse portfolio spans 3D art installations, dance, and video art. She writes for soloists and ensembles and performs piano improvisations internationally. Her four-year residency in Australia inspired a fascination with traditional Asian instruments, while her move to Venice led her to explore ancient instruments like the theorbo and viola da gamba. She co-wrote an opera for Teatro La Fenice that premiered in Venice and China in the presence of President of Italy, Sergio Mattarella.
Guided by a philosophy of artistic discovery, Anna blends diverse musical traditions and experimental sounds while maintaining a profound reverence for the lifelong commitment of classical performers. She seeks to honor the immense discipline and technical mastery of musicians, composing works that don’t just challenge their virtuosity but celebrate it. Her compositions are a tribute to the musician’s dedication, designed to highlight their exceptional abilities while ensuring the music remains an organic extension of the instrument - one that allows the performer the space to breathe and truly enjoy the act of playing.

Currently, her research focuses on musical recomposition, multilingualism in contemporary music, and settings of poems by Marc Chagall.

Anna Dobrucka to pochodząca z Cieszyna kompozytorka, pianistka i twórczyni interdyscyplinarna. Czteroletni pobyt w Australii zainspirował ją do zgłębiania brzmień tradycyjnych instrumentów azjatyckich (erhu, koto) natomiast przeprowadzka do Wenecji skłoniła ją ku instrumentom dawnym (teorba, viola da gamba). Jest współautorką opery dla Teatro La Fenice, której premiera odbyła się w Wenecji i Chinach z udziałem Prezydenta Włoch, Sergio Mattarelli.
Obecnie jej badania koncentrują się na procesie rekompozycji muzycznej, wielojęzyczności w muzyce współczesnej oraz muzycznym opracowaniu poezji Marca Chagalla.

Anna łączy różnorodne estetyki muzyczne z eksperymentalnym podejściem do dźwięku, kładąc szczególny nacisk na szacunek do warsztatu muzyka. Wierzy, że współczesna kompozycja powinna honorować lata wyrzeczeń i celebrować oraz eksponować techniczne mistrzostwo wykonawców. Jej kompozycje stanowią organiczne przedłużenie możliwości instrumentu (lub głosu), zapewniając wykonawcy niezbędną przestrzeń na ekspresję, oddech i satysfakcję z procesu twórczego.

Today in Paris, will perform the world premiere of 'The contour of the invisible things', a piece written especially for her.

"The program centers around the music of Grażyna Bacewicz-one of the most remarkable Polish composers of the 20th century-whose solo viola works form the emotional and structural core of the evening.

Her bold, virtuosic writing is juxtaposed with the world premiere of a new piece by Anna Dobrucka, representing the vibrant voice of a younger generation of Polish women composers. (...)

Through this program, Wojdalska explores the expressive range of the viola-from the resonance of Baroque imitation to the daring modernity of Bacewicz and Dobrucka - revealing the instrument as both timeless and ever-evolving.

Closely tied to her debut album dedicated to Bacewicz's solo viola music, this recital is not only an artistic statement but also an act of cultural storytelling: an homage to the creativity, resilience, and voice of Polish women in music."

A new piece will be premiered in Madrid during an International EPTA Congress for pianists by Piotr Różański.

This piano piece for the left hand alone is inspired by a passage from Emil Cioran’s The Book of Delusions (1936).
The work explores the notion of elegant isolation. Writing for one hand forces a reimagining of the piano language.
Through its restrained texture and inward gaze, the piece becomes a refusal to see limitation as loss, allowing a single hand to trace the contours of solitude as both burden and beauty.

'Vicino ma non troppo' premiered in the US in March 2025 by Zarebski Piano Duo will be performed this Sunday at the Centuries-old Benedictine abbey, perched on a cliff overlooking the Vistula River in Tyniec/Kraków.
