የዕጩ ዶ/ር እድሜዓለም ተመስገን የPhD መመረቂያ ጽሑፍ ግምገማ (Public Defense) ተካሄደ

በአርባ ምንጭ ዩኒቨርሲቲ ድኅረ-ምረቃ ትምህርት ቤት፣ በአርባ ምንጭ ውኃ ቴክኖሎጂ ኢንስቲትዩት (AWTI) ሥር በሚገኘው የውኃ ሀብትና መስኖ ምህንድስና ፋኩልቲ በመስኖ ምህንድስና (Irrigation Engineering) የ3ኛ ዲግሪ (PhD) ፕሮግራም ትምህርታቸውን ሲከታተሉ የቆዩት ዕጩ ዶ/ር እድሜዓለም ተመስገን የመመረቂያ ጽሑፍ ግምገማ (PhD Dissertation Public Defense) ሰኔ 10 ቀን 2018 ዓ.ም. በስኬት ተካሂዷል።

በዩኒቨርሲቲው ዋና ግቢ የውስጥና የውጭ ሀገር ገምጋሚዎች በተገኙበት በተካሄደው በዚህ የግምገማ መድረክ ላይ፣ የዕጩ ዶክተሩ የምርምር ሥራ አስፈላጊውን የአካዳሚክ መስፈርት በሙሉ አሟልቶ በመገኘቱ በአማካሪና ገምጋሚ ቦርዱ ሙሉ ድምፅ ተቀባይነት አግኝቶ ጸድቋል።

የዕጩ ዶ/ር እድሜዓለም ተመስገን የምርምር ጽሑፍ “Integrated Modeling and Smart Sensor-Based Irrigation Scheduling Approach for Wheat Production Improvement in Southern Ethiopia” በሚል ርዕስ የቀረበ ሲሆን፣ የምርምር ሥራው በዶ/ር ሳሙኤል ዳጋሎ (ተባባሪ ፕሮፌሰር) ዋና አማካሪነት እና በዶ/ር ደመላሽ ወንድማገኘሁ (ተባባሪ ፕሮፌሰር) ረዳት አማካሪነት የተመራ ነበር።

የዕጩ ዶ/ር እድሜዓለም ተመስገን የምርምር ውጤትና አጠቃላይ የትምህርት አፈጻጸም በቀጣይ ለዩኒቨርሲቲው ሴኔት ቀርቦ ሲጸድቅ፣ የዶክትሬት ዲግሪያቸውን በይፋ ያገኛሉ።

በአርባ ምንጭ ዩኒቨርሲቲ ድኅረ-ምረቃ ትምህርት ቤት፣ በአርባ ምንጭ ውኃ ቴክኖሎጂ ኢንስቲትዩት (AWTI) ሥር በሚገኘው የውኃ ሀብትና መስኖ ምህንድስና ፋኩልቲ በከርሰ-ምድር ውኃ ምህንድስና (Groundwater Engineering) የ3ኛ ዲግሪ (PhD) ፕሮግራም ትምህርታቸውን ሲከታተሉ የቆዩት ዕጩ ዶ/ር ዋስሁን ደርቤ ፀጋዬ የመመረቂያ ጽሑፍ ግምገማ (PhD Dissertation Public Defense) ሰኔ 10 ቀን 2018 ዓ.ም. በስኬት ተካሂዷል።

በዩኒቨርሲቲው ዋና ግቢ የውስጥና የውጭ ሀገር ገምጋሚዎች በተገኙበት በተካሄደው የግምገማ መድረክ ላይ፣ የዕጩ ዶክተሩ የምርምር ሥራ አስፈላጊውን የአካዳሚክ መስፈርት በሙሉ አሟልቶ በመገኘቱ በአማካሪና ገምጋሚ ቦርዱ ሙሉ ድምፅ ተቀባይነት አግኝቶ ጸድቋል።

የዕጩ ዶ/ር ዋስሁን ደሪበ የምርምር ጽሑፍ “Spatiotemporal Variation of Groundwater Resources and Its Vulnerability to Pollution in Agricultural Watershed: A Case Study of Woleka River Sub-Basin, Ethiopia” በሚል ርዕስ የቀረበ ሲሆን፣ የምርምር ሥራው በዶ/ር ሳሙኤል ዳጋሎ (ተባባሪ ፕሮፌሰር) ዋና አማካሪነት እና በዶ/ር አቡኑ አጥላባቸው (ተባባሪ ፕሮፌሰር) ረዳት አማካሪነት የተመራ ነበር።

የዕጩ ዶ/ር ዋስሁን ደርቤ የምርምር ውጤትና አጠቃላይ የትምህርት አፈጻጸም በቀጣይ ለዩኒቨርሲቲው ሴኔት ቀርቦ ሲጸድቅ፣ የዶክትሬት ዲግሪያቸውን በይፋ የሚያገኙ ይሆናል።

በአርባ ምንጭ ዩኒቨርሲቲ ድኅረ-ምረቃ ትምህርት ቤት፣ በማኅበራዊ ሳይንስና ሰነ ሰብ ኮሌጅ በጂኦግራፊና አካባቢ ጥናት ትምህርት ክፍል ስር በሚገኘው “Environment and Natural Resource Management (ENRM)” የ3ኛ ዲግሪ (PhD) ፕሮግራም ትምህርታቸውን ሲከታተሉ የቆዩት ዕጩ ዶ/ር ደምሴ ዳላቾ የመመረቂያ ጽሑፍ ግምገማ (PhD Dissertation Public Defense) ሰኔ 9 ቀን 2018 ዓ.ም. በጫሞ ካምፓስ ተካሂዷል።

በዕለቱ የውስጥና የውጭ ሀገር ገምጋሚዎች፣ ጥሪ የተደረገላቸው እንግዶችና ተመራማሪዎች በተገኙበት በባለሙያዎች ፊት በቀረበው በዚህ መድረክ ላይ፣ የዕጩ ዶክተሩ የምርምር ሥራ አስፈላጊውን የአካዳሚክ መስፈርት በሙሉ አሟልቶ በመገኘቱ በገምጋሚ ቦርዱ ተቀባይነት አግኝቷል።

የዕጩ ዶ/ር ደምሴ ዳላቾ የምርምር ጽሑፍ “CLIMATE CHANGE, LIVELIHOOD VULNERABILITY AND ADAPTATION STRATEGIES IN ETHIOPIA: THE CASE OF WOLAITA ZONE, SOUTHERN ETHIOPIA” በሚል ርዕስ የቀረበ ሲሆን፣ የምርምር ሥራው በፕሮፌሰር ተሾመ ይርጉ ባዩ ዋና አማካሪነት እና በዶ/ር ቶማስ ቶማ ረዳት አማካሪነት የተመራ ነው።

የዕጩ ዶ/ር ደምሴ ዳላቾ የምርምር ውጤት በቀጣይ ለዩኒቨርሲቲው ሴኔት ቀርቦ ሲደቅቅ የዶክትሬት ዲግሪያቸውን በይፋ የሚቀዳጁ ይሆናል።

Dr. Lawrence Banks Delivers High-Level Scientific Seminar at Arba Minch University

ARBA MINCH, ETHIOPIA – June 16, 2026 – Arba Minch University (AMU) hosted a high-level scientific seminar featuring Dr. Lawrence Banks, Director-General of the International Centre for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (ICGEB), bringing together university leaders, researchers, academic staff, postgraduate students, and grant beneficiaries to explore opportunities for international research collaboration, scientific mobility, and biotechnology innovation.

Opening the seminar, Dr. Ing. Abdela Kemal, President of Arba Minch University, welcomed Dr. Banks and emphasized the importance of scientific excellence, innovation, and international collaboration in addressing challenges in health, agriculture, environmental management, and technology. He described the visit as a valuable opportunity to strengthen cooperation between AMU and ICGEB and highlighted the University's planned transition to an autonomous governance system and the recent inauguration of its 600-bed Teaching and Comprehensive Specialized Hospital.

Speaking at the event, Dr. Teklu Wogayehu, Vice President for Research and Cooperation Service, described the AMU–ICGEB partnership as one of the University's most impactful international collaborations. He noted that the partnership, initiated through the scientific leadership of Dr. Addisu Fekadu, secured more than €250,000 through ICGEB's Collaborative Research Programme (CRP) between 2021 and 2026. The collaboration contributed to breakthroughs in Enset fermentation technology, the creation of over 4,000 jobs, and strengthened AMU's position as a national leader in biotechnology and food systems innovation.

Dr. Teklu further highlighted that through the B-INOC Programme, the partnership has strengthened the University's Enset and Rhizobiology Laboratories, trained more than 650 smallholder farmers, and supported rhizobial inoculant distribution and demonstration trials benefiting around 300 farmers. He also announced ICGEB's support for the first-ever postdoctoral fellowship at Arba Minch University.

In his presentation, Dr. Lawrence Banks provided an overview of ICGEB's global mission and opportunities available to researchers from member countries. He explained that ICGEB comprises 69 Member States, including 24 African countries, and supports scientific cooperation, capacity building, and technology transfer in biotechnology. He highlighted fellowship programmes, collaborative research grants, and international mobility opportunities available to scientists and students.

Dr. Banks also shared practical advice for grant applicants, encouraging researchers to develop clear, realistic, and innovative proposals with achievable objectives, strong scientific merit, and interdisciplinary collaboration. He stressed that successful projects are those that address real-world challenges while delivering meaningful scientific and societal impact.

Dr. Addisu Fekadu, Enset Project Coordinator and ICGEB Grant Awardee, noted that Dr. Banks' visit marks an important milestone in strengthening the partnership between AMU and ICGEB. He emphasized the significant role of ICGEB grants in enhancing research capacity, supporting innovation, establishing advanced laboratory facilities, and creating opportunities for researchers and postgraduate students.

Participants described the seminar as highly informative and inspiring, particularly appreciating the opportunity to learn about international research funding, fellowship programmes, and strategies for developing competitive research proposals.

During the event, Arba Minch University presented ICGEB with a Crystal Award and Certificate of Recognition in appreciation of its outstanding partnership and unwavering support in advancing research, scientific excellence, innovation, and capacity building at the University.

ICGEB Director-General Dr. Lawrence Banks Visits Enset Innovation Sites in Dorze and Arba Minch

ARBA MINCH, ETHIOPIA – June 15, 2026 – Continuing his official visit to Arba Minch University, Dr. Lawrence Banks, Director-General of the International Centre for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (ICGEB), spent the morning in Dorze, where he observed traditional and modern Enset processing practices and innovations that are contributing to food security, job creation, and sustainable livelihoods.

During the tour, Dr. Banks observed traditional enset processing practices, visited women-led enset fiber enterprises, and toured the innovative community-based Enset processing pilot plant. He also visited Arba Minch University's Enset Park, which serves as a center for enset conservation, research, and innovation.

In the afternoon, Dr. Banks returned to Arba Minch and visited Lucy Enset Manufacturing, a pioneering enterprise engaged in the production of value-added enset products, including kocho and bulla flour, cookies, snacks, and waffles. He also toured the Lucy Enset Processing Machinery Manufacturing and Assembly Facility, where he was briefed on efforts to develop and commercialize mechanized enset processing technologies.

The visits showcased Arba Minch University's role in transforming indigenous knowledge into market-oriented innovations and promoting community-based enterprises through research, technology transfer, and value addition. They also highlighted the impact of the longstanding partnership between Arba Minch University and ICGEB in advancing enset-based biotechnology and sustainable development.
