Today is International Day of Play! 🧸

This year's theme is "Protect play, protect childhood." Protecting children's right to play means protecting the conditions in which they grow and the curiosity, confidence and sense of self that develop through it.

Every child has a right to play and at FinlandWay this is not just a value but a practice built into the entire school day!

Ms Payal Gandhi was selected as FinlandWay® Teacher of the Year 2026 in recognition of her strong and consistent implementation of the programme. She brings the FinlandWay® methodology thoughtfully into her everyday practice, creates engaging learning environments, and documents children's progress with care and a clear understanding of each child's individual needs and next steps. Colleagues, parents, and children all speak warmly of her, and her genuine enjoyment of her work is evident to anyone who observes her in the classroom.

🎨🧑‍🎨When exploring painting, educators should not limit the experience to using only a paintbrush. Young children are still developing their pencil grip and often paint using large, whole-arm movements while exploring paint with all their senses.

Painting exploration is best introduced through whole-body experiences and tools that are easy for small hands to hold. As children gain experience with paint in this playful and sensory way, they can gradually move on to practising how to hold a paintbrush and create more controlled and detailed marks.

This week was Earth Day.🌍

Regular time in natural environments lowers stress, builds physical coordination, and improves concentrations skills. Finland’s National Core Curriculum is built around this. The outdoor environment is treated as a genuine learning space.

Safety education is an important theme in early childhood education. ⛑️🧯

In FinlandWay, we see safety skills as important life skills. We believe in the power of Imaginative play and stories as tools to explore safety education themes in a way which children can understand. Through a playful storytelling session children can learn for example about fire, or traffic rules in a safe way in their classroom.

In the photo, children in Garodia FinlandWay were imagining they are stranded on a deserted island and built a “fire” in the classroom as part of their exploration of natural elements.
