Congratulations to Gaye Amus, the founder of Learning In Nature! As the first half of the year is drawing to an end we would like to pause & celebrate the accomplishments. On January 2026, Gaye Amus Gaye Amus was given the Environmental Contribution award at the 8th Women Entrepreneurs Support Summit and Award Ceremony in Türkiye organized by New Quests Enterprise Platform Association (YAPDER) YAPDER . At the summit held in Istanbul where the theme Cultural Heritage was discussed, Gaye Amus received her award from the jury member and successful entrepreneur Emine Erdem Emine Erdem . The main purpose of the summit, which brought together women who shape the world, was to support the women’s movement and entrepreneurship and to raise awareness. Women producers and entrepreneurs from all over Türkiye were hosted, and women who contributed to social development were rewarded and shown appreciation.
In her book “Come Out to Play”, published by Epsilon Epsilon Yayınevi in 2022, Gaye Amus had quoted the words of David Sobel, an American environmental education expert: “If we want children to flourish, to become truly empowered, then let us allow them to love the earth before we ask them to save it.”
By reminding children and adults that they are also nature, Learning In Nature aims to deepen their true love for nature, return to their essence and internalize the protection of the environment. Again, as David Sobel said, “You cannot love what you do not know”...
Societies are strengthened by the steps taken and shared by women. We congratulate Gaye Amus, who was selected by the special jury as one of the 20 award winners among 520 candidates, for her 12-year work to increase the wellbeing of the Turkish land, children and adults.

The biggest outdoor learning event in Finland ULOS-UT-OUT event took part this year between 9-11th June. Participants from different backgrounds environmental educators, teachers, youth professionals came together to share ideas, experiences and their passion for outdoor learning. Organized by 11 different organizations the theme of the event was ”Going Wild”
The organising team came from all over Finland, from large and small organizations, working with children or adults, offering expertise in many languages bringing diversity and a wonderful example of teamwork.

During the 3 days of Ulos-Ut-Out 2026 which was filled with keynote speeches (even outdoors), round table discussions and outdoor workshops the aim was to create opportunities for learning, connection, reflection and new discoveries in natural and urban environments.
What began as a gathering of people soon became a community of learners, educators, researchers, outdoor enthusiasts and like-minded friends.

There were many inspiring experiences in forests and parks. The conference which was set in a local school in the middle of many parks in Tampere, created learning spaces which became places for new conversations, shared experiences, and fresh perspectives on the importance of themes such as biodiversity, aesthetics, connecting to nature, inclusion, wellbeing, values, ethics and art.

Thank you to the organisers, the workshop leaders and participants near & far for an amazing event. See you again in two years.

We don't need things, we want things...Think again next time before you buy something...do you need it or want it?
🌿

Repost & :
do we actually need all this stuff? seriously. the endless hauls, upgrades, trends, fast fashion drops, random packages arriving at the door every week. we know hyperconsumerism is chewing through forests, oceans, workers, communities and the climate, yet buying has become a personality, a coping mechanism, a culture.

yes, there’s no ethical consumerism under capitalism. but that phrase was never meant to become a permission slip for mindless consumption. culture shapes systems. systems shape culture.

we are constantly told happiness lives in the next purchase, the next aesthetic, the next thing. but who benefits from that story? billionaires, advertisers, fossil fuel giants, corporations built on extraction.

our individual choices alone won’t dismantle capitalism. but our habits, values, communities and expectations help shape the collective world we live in. if we want a different system, shouldn’t we start questioning the culture living inside us too? do we really need more stuff. or do we need more connection, purpose, community?

The United Nations Convention on Biological Diversity was adopted on May 22, 1992. In order to draw attention to the fact that the number of living beings in nature is decreasing day by day, May 22 is celebrated every year as International Day for Biological Diversity.

The Convention on Biological Diversity, which is an international legal document for the protection of biodiversity, has been in force for 27 years. This was a decision of the United Nations General Assembly and it covers everything from animals, plants and fungi to microorganisms. With the slogan for this year “We are part of the solution for nature” determined by the United Nations, it is reminded once again that on May 22 having access to a clean and healthy environment depends on biological diversity.

As Learning In Nature, we continue to contribute to the recognition of biological diversity, to increasing the awareness of its importance and protection by bringing adults and children together into nature with the trainings we provide.

Happy International Day For Biological Diversity

Today is Outdoor Classroom Day! Learning In Nature has been one of the supporting partners of the Outdoor Classroom Campaign since 2017. Every year it takes place in May and November. Here in Finland we celebrate it as Ulkoluokkapäivä .
Finland has a long history of outdoor play and it is every day! May it be an inspiration for all🌦️

Outdoor Classroom Day is a global movement to inspire and celebrate outdoor play and learning, at home and at school. On these two days each year teachers celebrate with a special day outdoors for their class, at the playground, park, seaside, forest, meadows, museum or any other natural environment or cultural site close by.

Children are spending less time outdoors than ever before and this is affecting their health, wellbeing and development. Time outdoors – on Outdoor Classroom Day and every day – will make children happier and healthier, as well as equipping them with the skills they need for life.

As Learning In Nature we too support Outdoor Office Days. Did you know that being outdoors boosts productivity, enhances mental well-being and reduces stress? According to the American Psychological Association via UCLA Health, spending just two hours per week in nature measurably improves cognitive function and lowers burnout rates.
Join us too this week for Finnish Outdoor Office Day Week and tell us your experience!

🇫🇮 Finland invites the world to take work outside.

During Finnish Outdoor Office Day Week, May 18–22, 2026, Finland is calling organizations, teams and individuals everywhere to move their work toward more natural environments.

The idea is simple: work doesn’t have to happen within four walls. Parks, forests, backyards, balconies and city streets can all become places for focused thinking, collaboration and creativity.

Outdoor Office Day Week is a global invitation to try working differently—even just for a moment. A change of environment can support better thinking, better energy, better work and better health.

This week also serves as a warm-up for International Outdoor Office Day on June 11, 2026—a shared global moment to rethink where and how work happens.

Wherever you are, start outside.
Make work environments more natural.
Join the movement.
