The Ministry of Multi-Ethnic Affairs, Culture, Heritage and Arts awarded prizes to the winners of the National 147th Girmit Day Competition 2026, recognizing students across Fiji for their creativity and commitment to preserving the Girmit legacy.

Through poetry, essays, and poster competitions in English, Hindi, and Vosa Vakaviti, students showcased their understanding of this year's theme, “From Roots to Wings: Carry the Girmit Flame Forward.”

Votualevu College students proudly received their awards, presented by Acting Senior Policy Analyst Mr. Arbaaz Ali and staff member Visheel Sharma.

Term 2 – Week Ending 22nd May 2026

Term 2, being the most comprehensive and demanding academic term, commenced with students being addressed by members of the Administration Team during the first assembly. Addressing the students were HOS-Mr. Chand, Vice Principal-Mrs. Jaffar and Assistant Principal - Mr. Nand.

A presentation on the week’s theme was delivered by Ish*ta Lal of year 12A, while important TOD reminders were clearly and precisely highlighted by Mrs. Taraivina Nailisa.

Students were warmly welcomed back and positively reinforced as expectations, academic targets, and behavioural standards were clearly outlined. College rules were revisited to ensure continued compliance and discipline amongst students. In addition, the College Planner and important term dates were discussed, along with the analysis of the Term 1 End Examination results.

Students were also reminded of the Progression and Retention Policy as stipulated in Circular 04/2026 and encouraged to remain focused on the school’s theme: “Championing Excellence in Learning, Leadership and Character.

Our teachers and staff utilised today’s Student Free Day for professional development, planning, classroom preparation, and final arrangements to ensure a smooth and productive start to Term 2. Considerable effort has been made to create a welcoming, organised, and positive learning environment for all students returning tomorrow. We look forward to seeing our students return refreshed, motivated, and ready to continue their academic journey.

Parents and guardians are kindly reminded to ensure that students report to school tomorrow (19th May) in full and proper uniform, with the required stationery, books, and fully prepared. Please ensure that all holiday assignments and pending schoolwork are completed, and that students arrive punctually from Day 1. Kindly note that Parent-Teacher Interviews (PTI) will be held on Wednesday, 27th May 2026 (Week 2 Wednesday). A newsletter will be circulated tomorrow. Your continued support and partnership remain vital in maintaining high standards of learning, discipline, and student wellbeing.

Our students have officially begun their Term End Examinations, marking the culmination of 13 weeks of dedicated learning, growth, and hard work, with active engagement in lessons, projects, assignments, practical activities, and consistent note-taking strengthening their preparation. These examinations provide an opportunity to reflect on academic progress, assess understanding, and identify areas for improvement, with results offering valuable insights for students, parents, and teachers to support continued success. Day 2 of the examinations is now underway, and we commend our students for their focus and effort; paper remedial sessions will be conducted on Thursday and Friday to further support learning, and we also extend our very best wishes to our Coke participants—stay confident and give it your all! ✨

Week 12's school assembly began on a solemn note as we paid our last respects to the former President of Fiji. Students and staff observed a minute of silence, followed by a heartfelt tribute highlighting his life, service, and contributions to the nation. The obituary shared during the assembly reminded us all of the values of leadership, dedication, and national pride.

The assembly then transitioned into its formal proceedings with the inaugural performance of our brass band. The band proudly led the college song and prayer, creating a memorable and uplifting atmosphere that marked a special milestone for our school community.

Our weekly theme was introduced, encouraging students to reflect on its importance in guiding their actions and attitudes. This was further reinforced by the Thought of the Day (TOD) report, which provided meaningful insights for everyone present.
Students were awarded certificates for Zone participation and achievements.

A key highlight of the assembly was the address by the Fiji Police Force, who spoke to students about pressing social issues. Their presentation included eye-opening facts and figures, particularly concerning the number of school-aged students involved in criminal activities. This message served as a strong reminder of the importance of making responsible choices.

Students were also educated on the growing drug crisis in Fiji, as well as HIV awareness and precautions. These important discussions aimed to empower students with knowledge, helping them make informed decisions and safeguard their future.

Overall, the assembly was both reflective and impactful, blending remembrance, celebration, and education in a way that truly resonated with our school community.

Week 13 was utilised for outreach, prioritising discussions on student attendance and the achievement of required learning competencies.

During the outreach sessions held on Tuesday and Wednesday, Individual Educational Plans (IEPs) were collaboratively developed with parents to support improved performance in the
Term 1 End Examination in Week 14 as well as in all assessments during the year.

Votualevu College proudly acknowledges the generous donation of four bee boxes from the Ministry of Agriculture following our participation in the Fiji Agriculture Show 2025.

Our Vocational Agriculture students are all smiles, as this valuable contribution will enhance their practical learning experiences while also contributing to increased cash flow through honey production.

This initiative provides students with hands-on opportunities to manage a larger number of bee boxes, further strengthening their skills and knowledge in apiculture.

We extend our sincere appreciation to the Ministry of Agriculture for their continued support in empowering our students and promoting sustainable agricultural practices.
