ALL SCHOOLS IN FIJI CLOSED. PARENTS URGED TO MONITOR WEATHER UPDATES
Parents and guardians are advised not to send their children to school today, Tuesday 16 June, as all schools throughout Fiji are closed.
The decision was made by the,, which continue to monitor the worsening weather conditions across the country.
Persistent heavy rainfall, strong winds, coastal inundation and flooding are affecting many parts of Fiji, with further flooding expected. The closure is a precautionary measure to minimise unnecessary travel and ensure the safety and wellbeing of students, teachers and school communities.
Following consultations with the National Disaster Risk Management Office and the Fiji Meteorological Service Minister for Education, Hon. Aseri Radrodro is urging parents and guardians to keep children safely at home and not to attempt to cross flooded roads, bridges, creeks or rivers, or travel through affected areas.
The Ministry of Education, together with relevant authorities, will continue to monitor the situation closely and provide further updates, including advice on the reopening of schools, when it is safe to do so.
The safety and wellbeing of Fijiβs children remain the highest priority.

On Kioa Island, far from Fijiβs mainland, opportunity has not always been easy to reach.
For many women and girls, leadership existed quietly in homes, in schools, and behind the scenes.
But that is changing.
Through the work of our grantee partner, Fiji Girl Guides Association, women in this remote maritime community are stepping into leadership with confidence and purpose. What began as empowerment training has grown into a movement that is reshaping how leadership is seen and practiced.
Today, women across Kioa are stepping forward:
π Supporting learning and education
𧡠Sharing skills and knowledge
π©π½βπ« Leading within schools and communities
π€ Contributing to decisions that shape their future
Leadership is no longer limited to titles or positions, it is being embraced by every woman and girl.
Schools have become hubs of collaboration and inclusion.
Girls now grow up seeing strong, visible role models around them.
Communities are more engaged, connected, and driven by womenβs leadership.
Even without a direct presence, Women's Fund Fiji is reaching remote islands like Kioa through partners like the Fiji Girl Guide Association, ensuring no woman is left behind, no matter how far.
βοΈ Confidence strengthened
βοΈ Leadership expanded
βοΈ Communities mobilised
This is the power of investing in women and girls in even the most isolated places.
This is what real, lasting change looks like.

The Minister for Education, Hon. Aseri Radrodro, advises all parents, guardians, students, and school management that schools in the Western, Central, and Eastern Divisions will remain closed tomorrow Thursday 9th April while schools in the Northern Division will resume for classes.
This decision follows updated situational reports from all four divisions, in consultation with the National Disaster Risk Management Office (NDRMO), and reflects the ongoing impact of adverse weather conditions across parts of the country.
Current reports confirm 1,019 evacuees across affected areas, including 698 in the Western Division, 221 in the Central Division, and 100 in the Eastern Division. Several schools in these divisions continue to operate as evacuation centres, further limiting their readiness for normal school operations.
Flooded roads, unsafe crossings, and restricted access routes continue to pose significant risks. The Ministry emphasises that the safety and well-being of all students remains the top priority.
Students in the affected divisions are to remain at home under the supervision of parents and guardians. Parents are strongly urged to ensure that children do not attempt to cross flooded areas under any circumstances.
Subject to further assessments, schools in the Western, Central, and Eastern Divisions are expected to resume on Monday, pending official confirmation.
Tertiary institutions are encouraged to make independent decisions based on their own risk assessments. Academic arrangements and alternative online learning or work arrangements should be in place for the affected students and staff.
Parents and guardians are encouraged to support learning from home through school-provided platforms and resources.
The Ministry will continue to monitor developments and provide timely updates.
Hon. Radrodro extends his best wishes to all Fijians and visitors during this period.
Vinaka vakalevu and God bless.

PUBLIC ADVISORY β SCHOOL CLOSURE
The Ministry of Education wishes to inform all parents, guardians, students, and school management that all schools will remain closed tomorrow (Wednesday 8th April 2026) until further notice.
This decision follows situational reports received from all four divisions, in consultation with the National Disaster Risk Management Office (NDRMO), and the current severe weather conditions being experienced across the country, with the safety of our children remaining our top priority.
Over the past few days, many areas have already experienced significant flooding, with roads, crossings, and low-lying communities affected.
These conditions pose a serious risk to students, particularly those who must travel long distances or cross flooded creeks, rivers, and drains.
All students, including boarders, are to remain at home under the supervision of parents and guardians. Parents are strongly advised to ensure that children do not attempt to cross flooded areas under any circumstances.
Tertiary institutions are advised to make their own operational decisions based on their respective risk assessments.
We also urge all parents and guardians to boil all drinking water as a precautionary measure to ensure the safety and well-being of their children.
All Heads of Schools (HoS) are to liaise with their respective Divisional Education Officers (DEOs) and provide regular updates on the status of their schools, including those currently being utilised as evacuation centres.
The situation will continue to be closely monitored, and further updates will be issued as necessary.
During this period, students are encouraged to utilise their time at home for revision and reading.
The Honourable Minister for Education extends best wishes to all Fijians and visitors for a safe week ahead.
Vinaka vakalevu and stay safe Fiji.
