It has been a busy few months for our Human Rights and Data Science students.

This spring, Hadas Marcus and Alisia Simmons joined program director Dr. Claudia Roda to participate in the UNESCO event for the ECOSOC Youth Forum. Dr. Roda holds the UNESCO Chair in AI and Human Rights, and it was great to see her bring students along to contribute to this global dialogue.

This experience is a perfect reflection of what HRDS students are doing to move beyond the classroom. They aren't just studying policy; they are taking the lead on how we bridge the gap between complex AI systems and the communities they actually affect.

For example, Hadas and Alisia recently led an AUP Think Tank initiative where they convened UN actors, researchers, and youth movements to tackle real-world challenges like data governance and digital inequality.

If you want to be part of a program that moves between theory and real-world impact, take a look at our MSc in Human Rights and Data Science: https://graduate.aup.edu/academics/programs/msc-human-rights-and-data-science

Originally an AUP tradition from the early 2000s, the Graduate Garden Party was rediscovered and revived by the Graduate Student Council in 2025. Now back for its second year, the party was a chance to reconnect with classmates, faculty, and staff before the 2026 Commencement Ceremony.

“We loved creating a dedicated space for our peers to celebrate all we’ve accomplished over the past academic year,” shared President Mattie Drucker ().

In addition to a DJ, festive bites, and a new alumni toast led by Vice President for Development & Alumni Relations Courtney Stombock, this year’s event featured a selection of student work on display, offering a glimpse into the theses, applied projects, and original research completed by AUP’s graduate students.

Congratulations to all of our newest graduate ! We can’t wait to see what you do next. 🎓

đź“– This week's Times Literary Supplement fiction section has a distinctly Parisian feel and features two AUP voices.

Associate Professor and MFA in Creative Writing Co-Program Director Amanda Dennis contributes the first English-language review of Jakuta Alikavazovic's fifth novel, "Au grand jamais".

Alongside her, Alice Blackhurst, AUP's 2025 writer in residence through our partnership with the Centre Culturel Irlandais, reviews two books by celebrated poet-novelist Laura Vazquez—another English-language first.
