A weird and wonderful discovery!

We were walking home and suddenly a caterpillar swings through the air on to my glasses!

We discovered that these fascinating creatures are called Box Tree Caterpillars! The children looked at them really carefully - observing their colours, patterns and sizes... they also noticed that the bush they were on had no leaves on and was covered in webs!

So many questions were asked - why are some bigger and some smaller? What moths do they make? Did they eat ALL those leaves? Are they spider caterpillars because they make webs?

This is the beauty of childminding and childhood itself. The time to slow down, watch and wonder.

As Childminding Week draws to a close, I just wanted to express my gratitude to the families who trust me with their most treasured and precious people, the colleagues who support me all the way and to my wonderful Little Acorns for letting me be their safe place.

Childminding is never just a job. It is a way of being. An integral part of who you are. I am, now, and always will be, so proud to be a childminder.

And so 2025 as a childminder draws to a close! What an incredible year it has been for myself and the children!

We have been involved in lots of community projects, met lots of new friends and had so many adventures!

I have been involved in research projects, spoken at conferences, met new colleagues and formed even stronger bonds with current colleagues and friends. I am still reeling at being awarded Highly Commended in the Individual Childminder of the Year category at the Nursery World Awards! And excited about the numerous projects I will be continuing to be involved with in the new year.

A massive thank you to each and every parent and child for another phenomenal year! My job is such an incredible one because of you!
