The Nursery children have been showing a keen interest in Ladybirds as we have been spotting so many visiting our garden.

We decided to turn this into a mini project to allow the children to follow this line of enquiry and discover more about this very helpful little beetle - yes, that's right a ladybird we discovered, is a type of beetle.
In the garden we discovered just about all stages of the a ladybird's life cycle, including eggs and the larvae stage. We couldn't spot a pupae, but we found lots of a ladybird's favourite food... aphids!

In D&T we made ladybirds and used these in our maths session on subitising and matching numerals to amounts.
We learned so many skills whilst making our ladybirds such as learning to twist pipe cleaners, using scissors to cut accurately, hole punches and measuring.

It has been a truly wonderful week of learning and all from a few children showing wonder at this tiny little creature, it became a learning adventure for all.

Year 4 did brilliantly with their DT projects! They built greenhouses with a reinforced base and a geodesic dome. We learned about strengthening structures using methods like triangulation, trusses and beams.

A huge thank you to our Year 2 parents who came along to the workshop this week. With a DT focus, we created sculptures by manipulating card in different ways to ensure our structures had strength and stability. Masterpieces were created - well done everyone!

🌱Garden Rangers Update🌱

Yesterday’s break in the wet weather gave us the perfect chance to check on the vegetables we planted last term — and wow, the growth was incredible. The salad greens in the mini greenhouse have shot up so much that they’re now ready to harvest.

Out in the playground, the Rangers spotted that slugs and snails had been helping themselves to some of our plants. Using their problem‑solving skills, they made slug traps from recycled bottles and filled them with a yeast‑and‑sugar mixture to lure the pests away from our seedlings.

And PS: don’t miss the sunflowers — they’re shooting up beautifully 🌻

Keep calm and garden on,
Ms E

This week the Nursery children have been putting their mathematical understanding into practise.
We have been learning about solving simple problems that involve addition and subtraction. To do this we first learned the number rhyme, 'One elephant went out to play on a spider's web one day.'
We acted out the rhyme indoors and out with the children creating their own web which utilised their mark-making skills too.
Just like in the rhyme when the elephants had 'enormous fun' calling for another one to come - the children even invited Mr Foyle our site manager to come and play!

We would like to wish all our families who are celebrating Eid Al-Adha, next week, 'Eid Mubarak'. We hope you have a marvellous time with family and friends.

In Art, Year 2 have been learning about colour mixing. We now know which primary colours to mix to create secondary colours. We used watercolours to create our own colour wheels by using mixing techniques.
