We're a charity dedicated to our vision of life, free from serious accidental injury.

RoSPA aims to improve safety in all areas of life, without putting unnecessary restrictions on people's freedom. We believe that people should be given as much information as possible about the risks they may face, to enable them to undertake activities safely - rather than simply stopping people from taking risks at all.

🪜When buying garden equipment, cutting corners on safety isn’t worth the risk. Don't be tempted by bargains on online marketplaces, they could be coming from overseas and may not meet UK safety standards.

Before you buy:
- Research the product thoroughly and read customer reviews
- Look for a CE or UKCA mark to show its been tested to British safety standards
- Check the Office for Product Safety and Standards (OPSS) website for recalls and safety alerts.

Starmer backs Mirror campaign on water safety after 'deeply concerning' deaths 23/06/2026

The recent rise in drowning deaths, particularly among children and young people, is a tragic reminder that water safety must remain a national priority.

We welcome the Prime Minister's support of the DailyMirror's 'Save Lives for Sam' campaign, which is calling for greater action to prevent drowning and improve water safety awareness.

The campaign highlights the urgent need for better education, stronger safety measures around high-risk water sites, and increased public awareness ahead of the summer months.

Every drowning is one too many. Together we can work to end these tragedies.

Starmer backs Mirror campaign on water safety after 'deeply concerning' deaths Prime Minister Keir Starmer said it was 'hard to imagine' how parents must feel after losing their children in horror tragedies in the water during the recent heatwave

In 2025, RoSPA carried out an Inland Water Safety Review of 28 bodies of water for Bury Council’s Parks and Countryside service, including streams, ponds and lakes.
The review provided a structured assessment of site-specific risks, alongside clear and proportionate recommendations to support ongoing management, inspection and maintenance.
It also highlighted the value of water safety policy, community engagement and education in helping local authorities take a practical, long-term approach to public safety.
