The kitchen has been buzzing at our Easy Cook Club sessions ran by ChangeKitchen CIC in Birmingham and Walsall!
From chopping colourful vegetables and preparing ingredients to cooking a delicious noodle stir-fry, everyone got stuck in and showed fantastic teamwork. These sessions are all about building confidence, learning practical cooking skills and having fun while creating something tasty to enjoy together.
It's been brilliant to see participants trying new things, supporting each other and taking pride in the meals they've made. π

𧑠Stories matter. They make opportunity visible. They turn abstract ideas into something real.
This , we're spotlighting what's people-centred and achievable.
Many of our team have gained employment with us from a volunteer or work experience start.
We believe in treating everyone with kindness, regardless of their background or experience.
We see the light in people.
We support them to see the opportunity in themselves.
Here's a few heartwarming highlights from a recent project working with unemployed young people to give them skills, enable positive connections, and achievable sustainable futures.
π¬ βIt benefitted me in many ways besides cooking, including boosting my self-confidence and learning how to adapt to working as part of a team.β
π¬ βIt helped me form a routine for myself and start the day well.β
π¬ βItβs instilled the sort of work ethic I think will be useful in the world of employment and itβs allowed me to connect with a helpful cause in a heartening way.β
π¬ βIβm an introvert and working at ChangeKitchen CIC helped me open up more.β
Every booking made with ChangeKitchen CIC helps create a brighter future for someone.
Happy π

Retrofit Balsall Heath is taking part in Balsall Heath Community Festival 2026 Weβre inviting local residents to join us in a procession traversing Balsall Heath from east to west; from Balsall Heath Park to Calthorpe Park, on Sunday 5 July. Weβre going to be carrying banners made in workshops with local artist Thakoordin celebrating the strength and resilience of Balsall Heathβs vibrant community.
Retrofit Balsall Heath recently hosted a workshop with Jane to specifically make a βRetrofitβ themed banner which will have its first outing on 5 July.
Retrofit is a technical term which means making good,βfitβ buildings from existing buildings. We are applying this approach to homes, neighbourhoods, hearts and minds: making good and better what we have already.
Join us for all or part of the procession: for the beginners drumming workshop in Balsall Heath Park, to see the historical exhibition of Balsall Heath Carnival, for the model βWendyβ house retrofit street performance in George St Park - where we will demonstrate how to install insulation, draughtproofing, and renewable energy production (solar panels and heat pumps) in local homes to reduce energy bills and improve health and wellbeing.
For more info about the Festival check out: https://balsallheathan.org/balsall-heath-community-festival/
