Do you know someone who needs to talk?
It’s so let’s take a moment to raise awareness for the delicate issue of mental health.
Let’s encourage grooms to speak about their struggles, let’s empower grooms by showing them it’s ok to not be ok.
If you think someone you know would benefit from chatting, spend a few minutes listening, simply having a conversation can make a massive difference.
Our Grooms Minds mental health and well-being resource is designed to support grooms with a full range of tools and the confidential Grooms Minds Support Line which is available 24/7.

❓ Did you know that horses don’t feel the cold in the same way that we do ❓
🌡⬇With temperatures dropping it’s likely you’re adding on an extra layer of clothing. However, a healthy horse doesn’t tend to feel the cold until the temperature falls below 5°C, above this they are able to keep themselves warm without using too much energy. Therefore, it’s important we don’t rug our horses based on how cold we are feeling.
At this time of year, the temperature can vary at different parts of the day, so although it may feel cooler at 7am a few hours later it can be a lot warmer!
Rug or don’t rug, according to the needs of each individual horse. There are different factors to consider, so for more information and to learn more about how your horse naturally keeps warm visit: https://www.bhs.org.uk/horse-care-and-welfare/health-care-management/seasonal-care/rugging/

❤️
HM Queen Elizabeth II 1926-2022. The British Horse Society celebrates the Queen’s special connection and lifelong love of equines.
“The Queen became Patron of the BHS in 1952, and her long reign has been exemplified by her dedication to duty and unstinting devotion to the service of the nation. The Queen was also recognised throughout the world as a committed equestrian, and she has played an important role in enabling the BHS to fulfil a core part of its mission: encouraging people and horses to enjoy life together. Her Majesty’s profound interest in all disciplines and elements of equestrianism has been of incalculable benefit to horses everywhere, as her life-long love for them shone brightly on every occasion she was seen in their company. Her example is inspiring to us all, and one that I am sure has promoted positive equestrian participation in many other people.” - Tim Lord, BHS Chairman (British Horse Magazine feature. Platinum Jubilee: The Queen - Her Majesty’s life with horses)

🐴As grooms we all come across minor wound care and there is lots of advice about how to manage cuts.
👌Here are our top tips on wound management:
1. Clean, warm water is crucial for flushing wounds. Using freezing cold water can damage delicate tissue, delaying the healing process further.
2. Choose your product wisely. Silver Honey from Absorbine UK uses the natural properties of Manuka Honey and MicroSilver BG™ to care for the skin’s natural microbiome. It supports new skin cells, nourishes and conditions, therefore helping to maintain the optimal environment to promote wound healing.
3. Remember to check the ingredients in any product that you use if you have horses competing under rules.
4. Always seek veterinary advice – even if it is a phone call.
5. When you see a wound on a daily basis it can be harder to notice small changes. Take a picture every day so that you can monitor progress.
