π§ͺπ¬ Year 12 Chemists Take on the RSC Analyst Competition! π¬π§ͺ
Recently, our Year 12 Chemistry students put their analytical skills to the test in the RSC Analyst Competition. The competition challenges students to apply and extend their chemistry knowledge through practical investigations based on real-world scenarios.
This year, students stepped into the role of analytical chemists, helping police investigate a mysterious illness affecting an employee at a local pharmacy. Using a combination of forensic, cosmetic and analytical science, they worked to uncover whether foul play was involved.
Working in teams of three, students:
β Conducted a titration on a coffee sample found at the scene
π Used thin-layer chromatography (TLC) to analyse lipstick samples
𧴠Investigated a range of creams for potential evidence
The students thoroughly enjoyed the challenge and submitted their findings online after completing the investigation.
Now the wait begins! We look forward to discovering whether foul play was involved in the pharmacy case and which team will be declared the winners. π

Blacktone and Verdo Lounge supporting the Cameron Grant Memorial Trust πΆ
At Bablake, we are proud of our strong sense of community and the way we come together to support causes that truly matter. This term, weβre delighted to be supporting the Cameron Grant Memorial Trust - a charity with a special connection to our school.
Founded in memory of former Bablake pupil, Cameron Grant, the Trust works tirelessly to raise awareness of young peopleβs mental health, provide practical support and encourage open conversations so that no young person feels alone.
Weβre incredibly grateful to Cameronβs parents, who regularly visit our Sixth Form to share Cameronβs story and help our students understand the importance of seeking support when itβs needed.
Weβre also delighted to be partnering with Verdo Lounge, Sutton Coldfield, which is fundraising for the Trust throughout June. As part of this partnership, our award-winning Year 9 band, BlackTone, fresh from their Battle of the Bands success, will be performing live on Wednesday 24 June from 6.00pm. πΈ
If youβre able to join us, weβd love to see you at Verdo Lounge for an evening of fantastic live music, community spirit and support for an important cause. π

Bablake Medics π©ββοΈ
We were delighted to welcome Libby Stinton, former School Captain (pictured here in 2023), back to Bablake to speak with our aspiring Year 12 medics.
Having successfully completed her second year of Medicine at Aston University, Libby shared her experiences of studying medicine and offered invaluable advice to nine prospective medical students. From navigating the UCAT and timing applications effectively to making strategic university choices, her insights provided students with a clear and practical understanding of the application process. π
It was a fantastic opportunity for students to ask questions and learn from someone who has recently been through the journey herself. π©Ί
A huge thank you to Libby for taking the time to inspire and support the next generation of medics! β¨
