It was lovely to see some follow-up learning that was completed by one of the children who attends the Home Ed group last week! 🥰 We'd learnt about the equator and she had investigated other countries close to the equator and the plants that grow well there 🌱

Chocolate Wonderland 🍫 Week 2

Today's session was all about Fair Trade and we had some brilliant, thoughtful discussions 🌎

Our session included:
🍫 Learning about what Fair Trade means and how to spot Fair Trade products in the shops
🍫 Comparing Fair Trade and non-Fair Trade packaging and prices
🍫 Chocolate-buying role play and thinking about the different factors that influence our choices
🍫 Fair Trade chocolate shopping active game
🍫Painting our own Fair Trade logos to take with us to the shop when searching for Fair Trade products

The groups showed real maturity when talking about this subject and it was brilliant to see them realising the power they have to make a difference in the lives of others 💖

This afternoon's history seems to have sparked some extra curiosity, so we ended up having a deep dive into The Hanging Gardens of Babylon, one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World 🌎 I knew nothing about this before, so we've been learning together!

My favourite quotes of the afternoon:
✨"This is the most interesting history we've ever done, it's like searching for clues and trying to work out what you believe!"

✨"I think I might like to be an archaeologist when I grow up... Or maybe a historian... Or maybe both!"

We love using The Story of the World by for history - it reads like a captivating story, pitched at a perfect level and makes you want to keep reading!

Tomorrow we begin our new block of Home Ed sessions: Chocolate Wonderland 🍫 Kicking off with some Geography as we learn about where chocolate comes from and how it is made!

A bit of practical problem solving at breakfast time for our Maths today 🥰 This ended in a sharing game which included both the 7 year old and 2 year old (who wants to be involved in everything!)

This book has been a PERFECT resource for learning about food chains and how plants & animals depend on each other. I love it when you find a brilliant story that does the teaching for you.. I was just along for the ride!

We've spent a couple of weeks playing with multiplication and division... so when it came to pictorial representations and abstract number work this morning she was totally ready 🥰

We're currently revisiting some things from the Spring term using White Rose Maths. We usually use but I supplement with WRM for a few different reasons. It works brilliantly for us at the moment! ✨

Looking forward to this tomorrow! 🌈 Remember your child is welcome to dress up in their favourite colour/colours for some colourful art and science!
