We have been keeping cool today at Little Farmers! All the animals have access to shade and shelter, plenty of water and there is a lovely fresh breeze blowing onsite. The pigs have completely covered themselves in mud too. I would actually quite like to join them 🐖.
The children enjoyed a story about a very greedy goat and participated in crafts and play trays, all of which were kept under cover and in the shade. We used play dough & created some awesome goat-themed crafts.
We had fun with cooling play trays filled with slime and ice, a freeing toys from the ice challenge and playing at the water tray.
It was wonderful to see the children mixing and playing so well together.
And yes, those greedy goats did manage to escape and try to eat my flowers!

Covering the silage pit with large sheets is always a tough job, and it was especially challenging today with Colin’s aching back and the windy conditions.
We called in some reinforcements to help with the heavy lifting and pulling, as well as the task of securing the sheets with tyres. We even managed to sell the job to the kids as a "rugby conditioning" exercise! 🤪🤗
Thank you all for the great teamwork and hard work today. 🥰💪🤗

I am excited to share that after approximately 35 days, our Muscovy ducklings have finally arrived.
Can you see the empty shells they have hatched from?
Once a Muscovy mother duck goes "broody" and begins sitting full-time, it typically takes 33 to 37 days for the eggs to hatch. This is longer than most other duck breeds, which usually hatch in about 28 days.
Throughout this period, the mother occasionally leaves the nest briefly to eat, drink, and wash. She plucks her own down feathers to insulate the eggs while she is away.
I think it’s going to have to be duck week this week at Little Farmers 🐥

It’s "Vehicle Week" at Little Farmers! To kick things off, Farmer Kim completed the school run in our Kioti utility vehicle this morning to bring it on-site. After a slightly loud and bumpy ride to school, the vehicle remained at our session for the children to explore and sit in.
As always, we started our day at Farm School by feeding all the animals. Once our morning chores were finished, we moved on to plenty of vehicle-themed fun!
Ps every farm vehicle needs a unicorn hair brush on the dash 🫣
