As part of Spanish Culture Week, Year 5 learnt about the Spanish speaking countries taking part in The World Cup 2026. Children watched examples of some of their favourite football players speaking and translating Spanish to English. Year 5 took a closer look at the current reigning champions, Argentina. Alongside their fab geography skills, children used their Spanish knowledge to create their own information booklets all about Argentina and The World Cup. We canโt wait to see what other activities they get up to this week!

This week, Year 4 loved celebrating Spanish culture week with some traditional Spanish games and dancing. In 4E, we looked at the famous dance style, 'Flamenco'. The children explored the outfits, props and music involved. We made a Spanish fan of our own followed by some dancing! The children were fantastic at mimicking the Flamenco dance moves - and how amazing are their fans?! In 4M, the children played games very similar to some of the games we play in England: La Rayuela (like hopscotch); La Gallinita Ciega (like Blind Manโs Buff); and a game called El Paรฑuelo where we had to assign ourselves a number on each team and reach the panuelo (handkerchief) before the other team member got there.

Year 1 had an amazing time today during their visit to Newcastle Castle! They thoroughly enjoyed learning all about the history of the castle and showed lots of curiosity by asking and answering questions throughout the guided tour. One of the highlights was climbing to the top of the Castle Keep, where they were amazed by the views! They also loved their interactive workshop, discovering what kinds of food rich and poor people would have eaten in the past and they prepared their own feast for the king and queen.

6R have thoroughly enjoyed our special lessons this week. They have learnt about Argentina as a Spanish speaking country and the meaning of their flag. They created the 'sun of may' - an important symbol to Argentinians. Next, they put their culinary skills to the test when making a special Tapas dish 'Patatas Bravas'. This proved popular for some, less so for others.

As part of Spanish Culture Week, 3C have enjoyed finding out about the Moors and Christian Festival that takes places every year across Spain. They found out about the battle that took place between the two groups in 711 and about the resulting friendships between diverse communities. The children really enjoyed creating their own decorative collars which they could wear in a parade and mini soldiers and shields.

This week, Y3 and Y4 had a Kindness Workshop from the charity 52 Lives (www.52-lives.org) and their School of Kindness! We learned that kindness has three qualities โ being friendly, generous and considerate. We learnt about the science of kindness and the positive impact it has on our physical and mental health. Next, we practiced empathy by watching videos of kindness in action and then said kind things to each other in the classroom. To put our kindness into action, we thought of someone we knew who could do with a little kindness. We then made them a little something. Finally, we looked at the quote โbe the change that you want to see in the worldโ and decided that we can help to create the kind of world we want to live in. The School of Kindness has a Kidsโ Club which is free to join where you will get a free newsletter with kind challenges, stories, activities, jokes, competitions and videos to watch. Just visit www.schoolofkindness.org/kids-club to sign up.
