π¦π There has been lots of exciting learning taking place in our Nursery over the past few weeks. Through fun, hands-on activities, the children have been exploring minibeasts, creating symmetrical butterflies, making ladybirds, going on bug hunts, practising doubling in Maths and developing their listening skills through parachute games in P.E. π¦ππ¨βπ
We have also started our new topic, People Who Help Us, where the children have been learning about important roles in our community while developing their vocabulary, creativity and communication skills. A recent visit from Luna the therapy dog was another special highlight that brought lots of smiles and excitement. πΆ
π We currently have a small number of Nursery places available for September 2026. If you are looking for a nurturing, welcoming environment where children learn through play, exploration and discovery, we would be delighted to show you around.
Our Nursery offers 15 funded hours per week (Monday to Friday, 8.50amβ11.50am) for eligible children born between 1 September 2022 and 31 August 2023. π
To find out more or arrange a visit, please contact the school office on 020 8941 2548 or visit our admissions page on our website.

Year 6 have been exploring the topic of Light as part of their Science curriculum.
Last week, the children planned and carried out an investigation to answer the question: How does the size of a shadow change depending on its distance from a light source?
The pupils carefully considered the equipment they would need and how to make their investigation a fair test. Using their previous learning from Year 5 and Year 3, many children predicted that the shadow would become bigger as it moved closer to the light source.
The children also thought about the best ways to record their results and observations. We are looking forward to seeing the conclusions they reach in their next lesson.
It has been fantastic to see our pupils developing their scientific thinking, prediction and investigation skills. π

Year 2 have been enjoying the wonderful story Snow White in New York by Fiona French in their English lessons.
The children painted impressive portraits of the Evil Queen and are now creating βWantedβ posters to help capture her. This creative activity has helped them develop their reading, writing and art skills while bringing the story to life. π¨π
We are very proud of their imagination and enthusiasm for learning. ππ

Year 5 have been making the most of the beautiful weather while finishing their Geography topic, Marvellous Maps.
The children went outside to create their own maps of the school grounds. They included coordinates and map keys to help explain their maps.
They also carried out exciting shadow experiments in the playground. Using chalk, measuring tapes and recording charts, the children traced their shadows and observed how the position of the sun changed the length and direction of the shadows throughout the day.
It was a fantastic opportunity to combine Geography, Science and outdoor learning while developing observation and investigation skills.

Well, Buckingham Primary School was certainly not the same today As it Was on Friday. Governors, staff (and their families), and the wonderful volunteers came Together, (Together) and transformed areas of the school yesterday. Volunteers came from miles away, some as far as France (there were even some American Girls!). We all worked tirelessly β sanding, painting varnishing and gardening and the school looks amazing. Our heartfelt thanks to earnt.co.uk and the wonderful Harry Styles and Harry Styles HQ for sponsoring and supporting the event. We are truly grateful. π

In Year 2, we have been investigating what plants need to grow well.
We planted four pots of seeds and changed one variable each time: water and sunlight, water and no sunlight, no water and sunlight, and no water and no sunlight. We observed the seeds over three weeks.
We found that seeds with water grew, and seeds with sunlight were green, strong and healthy. Seeds without sunlight were weak and yellow. Seeds without water did not grow.
From our results, we concluded that seeds need water to germinate and sunlight to grow healthy. ππͺ΄π·

Linked to our Science topic of The Solar System, Year Five have been listening to and appraising Gustav Holstβs The Planets Suite. They quickly recognised how Holst inspired John Williams when he composed the Star Wars theme music.
The children then composed their own music pieces inspired by a planet, using formal and graphic notation to record their ideas. πΆ

In Year 2, we have had a great time in Maths using 'Bee-Bots' and games to support our learning.
The children have been practising positional language such as right, left, forwards, backwards and quarter turns. They enjoyed giving instructions and watching the Bee-Bots follow their directions carefully.
It's been a really fun and practical way to build confidence with early coding and direction skills.

Year 6 have been really enjoying their Science lessons!
They've been exploring light and how it travels, carrying out exciting experiments to understand refraction. The children observed how light bends when it moves through different materials, such as water and air. They were amazed to see objects appear to change direction, and even βdisappearβ when placed in a glass of water!
We also learned that white light is made up of the seven colours of the rainbow. π The children made their own rainbow spinners and discovered that when spun quickly, the colours blend to form white light.
We're looking forward to continuing our STEM learning by investigating shadows and how they change in size.
